Weekly Practice: The Three Aspects of Prayanama
Pranayama is the intentional regulation of breath to direct life force energy (prana), influencing the nervous system, mental state, and energetic body.
In yogic science, the breath has three distinct phases:
  • Purak — the inhale (receiving energy)
  • Kumbhaka — the pause or retention (integration)
  • Rechaka — the exhale (release)
Practice:
Sit or stand comfortably, take 5 long deep breaths, intentionally, allowing each phase to be equal and conscious.
Reflect:
  • How do you relate to receiving (inhale)?
  • How do you handle stillness (pause)?
  • How easily do you let go (exhale)?
