Today’s Shooting Observations and Lessons Learned
So today I decided to do a variation of last year’s Shot Challenge #4 & #6. I set up separate targets with the intention of trying to get a follow up shot off within 5 seconds. I used the separate targets to mimic the animal moving, for a different distance and angle, and to make me move and adjust. The first three pictures are of the first couple of rounds which overall I felt pretty good about but lots of observations from this exercise. 1) I wasn’t even close to getting the follow up shot off in 5 seconds - Probably more like 10 at best 2) As soon as I tried to focus on “ speeding up” the follow up shot my process suffered (alignment and release) and I started shooing left 3) Equipment wise I need to work on getting an arrow out of the quiver quietly and efficiently (slow might be fast here). I took a pause and repeated my warm up of alternating notional draws and blank bale shots and everything came right back in line. Last picture was my last shot of the session. The equipment shake down (actively using my quiver) and how quickly my shot process devolved under a pressure test was really eye opening. The journey continues!
