There’s an ongoing copyright class-action settlement involving Anthropic (Claude) related to books that were allegedly pulled from pirate sites and used in AI training.
Important clarifications so there’s no confusion:
• This ONLY affects authors whose specific book titles are on the official “Works List.”
• Simply using Claude to help write or develop books does NOT mean your work is involved.
• If your book is not on the list, you do not need to take any action.
If your title is on the list, you have options:
• You can stay in the settlement and potentially claim money later
• OR you can opt out by Jan 29 to preserve the right to sue separately for higher damages
I personally checked and none of my work is listed, but I wanted to make sure everyone here is informed so you can make the best decision for your IP.
