Gotta credit for this post. When I was a kid aged around 10, my Aunt used to make me a Maxwell House (instant) coffee.
She'd put the coffee (fines worked better than granules) and sugar in the bottom of the cup, add a small drop of water, and then take a spoon and whisk it around for seemingly hours so that it formed a lovely froth (the predecessor of crema!)
We'd make the coffee from there. That's what gave me my love of coffee and ever since then I've been hooked.
I was on instant coffee until I got to New Zealand in 2002 and lived there for a long time. The coffee culture in New Zealand is second to none, and that's where I really fell in love with the whole vibe around coffee and different styles etc.
And I've loved it ever since.
