NEW pattern! DAY 3 : Sewing 101
Day 2 : Sewing 101
If you missed Day 1, you can catch up here. (←click). We're going through the beginner's sewing course together. New tasks are posted every 3 days, and we'll sew a project together once everyone has complete task 2 (day 2). Task 2 : Your next task is to build some confidence in front of your sewing machine! Before we dive into a project, give yourself a chance to warm up and see how your machine is behaving. Practicing a few stitches helps you spot (and fix) issues early. Not sure what all those functions and stitches mean? Find the Machine Functions + Stitches video with downloadable PDFs HERE >>>MACHINE FUNCTIONS AND STITCHES<<< Most “machine problems” are usually one of these: - Incorrect threading - Wrong or blunt needle - Dust and lint build-up ❎Tension is rarely the true culprit, but if you need to adjust it slightly, I’ve added a tension video for you to watch. >>>SEWING MACHINE TENSION<<< ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ 🌱 HOW to practice? You can print the PDF stitch practice sheets if you like, but I recommend using fabric scraps. Fabric moves and behaves like the real thing — paper doesn’t. Use a contrasting thread so you can see what’s going on. And if you’re nervous about sewing straight, I’ve added a video with tips. Day 2 : Sewing 101
🚨 Sewing 101: Day 1 Starts Today! 🚨
Whether you’ve tried sewing before or you’re starting from scratch, this round of Sewing 101 is meant to feel really simple - not like climbing a mountain in flipflops. A lot of you have said things like: - “Why does sewing take so long?” - “I get overwhelmed before I even start.” - “Other people sew all the time… how?!” If that sounds familiar, you’re in exactly the right place. I’ve taught this course many times, and this round I’ll be tweaking it as we go to make it even simpler. If you co to the Sewing 101 course in the classroom, you’ll see a lot of extra info: stitch practice sheets, bonus lessons, etc. You can use any of that if it helps you feel confident, but you don’t need to start there. My 7-year-old learned to sew without naming a single stitch first! 👉 How this will work: - I’ll post here in the group every 3 days with the next step. - You’ll also get the post by email if you have notifications on in Skool. - Each step will have one clear task so you know exactly what to do. 📍 HOMEWORK and CHECK INS: I encourage you to post your progress and do the 'homework'. The first post feels awkward, but after that it keeps you motivated. More importantly - sharing your progress encourages someone who just needs a little nudge to actually get started. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ ✅ Day 1: Get your machine ready The biggest difference between “I sew often” and “sewing feels impossible to get time for” is this: Is your sewing machine packed away, or ready to use? → Your task today has two parts: 1️⃣ Give your sewing machine a spot. It does NOT need to be a sewing room. Members have set up: - on a desk, - a dining table corner, - even inside an unused shower! You just need: - a flat surface, - a plug point, - and ideally your machine not boxed up and buried. If it truly can’t stay out all the time, make it a grab-and-sew spot, like an easy to reach shelf.
