If you've been following along with us, you're ready to sew your first pair of lounge shorts! Here's what we've done so far: ✅ Learned the most important sewing foundations → using your machine, basic stitches and a few skills like sewing curves and corners, seam allowances etc. ✅ Covered the important things you should know about fabric - grainline, fabric types and what all those things like weight and drape mean. And now you should be ready to start working on your shorts pattern! Before you start sewing, there's some sewing PREP that you can't skip. Here's what you'll do next: 1. Print your pattern 2. Choose the correct size 3. Cut your fabric 4. Sew! This pattern is a PDF pattern, which means you download it and you can either print the full-sized version on A0 at a copy shop OR you can print it on a home printer on A4 or US letter paper and assemble it, much like a puzzle 🧩 - If you need help with this, the lesson on HOW TO USE A PDF PATTERN can guide you. It also shows my favourite hack for making the sticking together of all those pages really fast and simple. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 👉 HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR SIZE: The most important thing you need to know about sewing clothes is that your size when shopping is NOT your size when sewing. Sewing sizes are different and you must use your measurements or you'll end up with the wrong fit. 🚨 I *highly* recommend choosing your size BEFORE printing your pattern - and please print at least 3 sizes (one smaller and one larger than your measurements)🚨 ▶️ Watch the replay of how to choose your size HERE

SEWING = FABRIC OBESSIONS🤩 But should it? When I started sewing I was obsessed with buying fabric. I would go to discount fabric stores and leave with enormous bags full of any fabric I could find... What a HUGE MISTAKE 🙄 Almost ten years down the line and I am STILL stuck with pieces of fabric I would never buy today. I made two mistakes: 1. Not understanding that there are different kinds of fabric and how they are used when sewing 2. Not knowing what kinds of fabric I like (not just what was on sale or what looked pretty) YOUR NEXT TASK: Take a few minutes and learn a little about fabric. For this project you will need: - non-stretchy fabric (called woven fabric) that isn't too thick i.e "medium weight" - think of Pajama bottoms when choosing the fabric: does this feel like something kind-of sturdy but not as thick as jeans? And not as thin as silky pyjamas? - an old sheet is a great start! - Fabric suggestions: flannel , cotton , chambray
