🙏🏼 prayer 🙏🏼
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for this day, thank you for the breath in my lungs and the strength in my body. Thank you for my family. Thank you for the people I’ve been blessed to know and the opportunities along the way. Thank you for Your mercy and faithfulness. Thank You for Your sacrifice and forgiveness. Forgive me for my ignorance and pride, and for taking what You’ve given me for granted. I pray for today and a stronger faith for tomorrow. God, strengthen me to fight against my enemies with the sword of the Spirit. Protect me with the shield of faith. Guide me with the sandals of peace. Hold me with the belt of truth. Give me knowledge through the helmet of salvation, and may Your light shine through the breastplate of righteousness. I expect great things from You, but in return You expect great faithfulness. May I pursue and honor You in my ways. Amen.

IT’S THE WAY THROUGH IT
This morning, I didn’t give a shit about getting into that ice bath. Normally, I fight it for five or ten minutes. Today, I avoided it for more than two hours. At first, I had legitimate reasons. I spent longer in Scripture and reflection. Then I didn’t have enough time to get in and finish my workout before taking Savannah to school. I told myself I would do it afterward. Then Savannah walked into the shop. “The dogs crapped in my room!” Mari and I got frustrated. We argued about whose responsibility it was to discipline the dogs. “You’re the one who wanted these dogs!” Back and forth we went. I took Savannah to school, came home, and returned to the conversation calmly. “Mari, we both love these dogs. It isn’t always sunshine and butterflies. But Savannah is learning valuable lessons through them, and so are we. We wouldn’t learn how to work through these problems without facing them. We have to get through this together.” Good conversation. Problem addressed. Then I remembered the fucking ice bath. I walked into the shop and started going through the motions. I opened the lid. Put on the suit. Made a list of everything that needed to get done. More avoidance disguised as productivity. Finally, I quit my bitching and got in. And now the thoughts about avoiding it are gone. Twelve consecutive days. But this isn’t about maintaining a streak. It isn’t about performing or proving how tough I am. It is about learning how to move through the moment when I don’t want to do the difficult thing. The ice bath didn’t make the argument disappear. It didn’t train the dogs. It didn’t solve every problem waiting for me today. It reminded me that I can face what is uncomfortable, stay in the conversation, create a plan, and see myself through. I’ve done it before. It wasn’t only about the alcohol. It was about finding my way through it. It wasn’t only about the addiction. It was about finding my way through it. It isn’t only about the pain, the conflict, or the problem. It’s the way through it.
