- Supports both text and vision inputs
- Handles up to ~256K context length and ~128K output tokens
- Smarter routing automatically chooses between standard and reasoning modes depending on complexity
- Major accuracy improvements with fewer hallucinations and better self-correction
- Can admit when it doesn’t know or can’t complete a request
- Built-in personality modes like Cynic, Robot, Listener, and Nerd
- Customizable UI colors per chat in ChatGPT
- New “safe completions” for sensitive prompts, still helpful but within safe boundaries
- Significant upgrades in coding performance, topping benchmarks like SWE-Bench and Aider Polyglot
- Advanced tool-calling support with web browsing, file handling, and image generation built-in

- Output cost for full GPT-5 matches GPT-4o, while input cost is about half (see screenshot below)
