When I got Crowned, I was told that every time I’m about to cross over train tracks, I need to do the sign of the cross. Never explained just told to do it. Which is also weird because I thought Catholicism was separate from Lucumí 🤷🏽♀️ I have a friend that every time she goes over a bridge, she does the sign of the cross. If she lived in Tampa Florida, it would look like she was doing sign language because there are so many bridges in that area. But when I told her that I had to do the same thing every time I crossed over a train track, she commented that she’s never heard of that before. Now I know, that every time I pass by a graveyard that I have to get blessings to Oya. Or whenever I hear Shango’s name mention for the first time in conversation that I have to stand up briefly to give him praise and honor. Are some of the things that we do are they religious practices or superstition according to your godparent?
