🌿 Don’t hold tightly.
The concept of non-attachment, most clearly delineated in Eastern traditions, teaches that desire isn’t wrong, but attachment is. When you understand—not just mentally, but spiritually and in your heart—the impermanence of material nature, of this world, you realize that any moment with the things you love and enjoy could be your last.
There is no guarantee that your desires will come to fruition in the future, and there is nothing you can do about the past. It has all been etched in the heavens—your good work, your karma, all of it.
Our responsibility is to rest in what yogis call the “Self”—your higher nature, in God—and to live in the present moment, holding all things loosely.
🧘♂️ Breathwork Practice
Start in a comfortable, straight-backed seated position with your eyes closed.
Breathe in for 6 seconds, hold for 6 seconds, and breathe out for 6 seconds. Repeat as much as needed, focusing on relaxing your body more and more with each breath.
Take as much time as you need for this.
🌄 Visualization
Now, envision that you are in a beautiful forest near a mountaintop, under the trees, overlooking the mountains and cliffs, watching the sunrise—perhaps outside of a cabin with your coffee.
Take in the sights.
Then, out of nowhere, a beautiful bird comes and rests on your shoulder, startling you—but you settle in. It’s the most beautiful bird you’ve ever seen.
🕊️ The Lesson
It’s not love to push it away or to trap it so it can’t escape.
Read that again.
So you let it come, and you let it go.
💫 Integration
Rest in this beautiful scene. Experience the imagery—the fresh mountain air, the scent of flowers, the dew, the beautiful bird, the sunrise—and feel in your heart both the beauty and the impermanence of the moment.
Rest with that understanding, and with the gratitude, surrender, and faith required to truly rest in this moment and in this truth.
Settle into non-attachment. Then practice this with everything in your life. Truly, anything can cause us to become attached. Develop this wisdom and awareness.
Take as much time as you need.
