The power of perseverance - Claude Cowork
Well, I'm not sure how you spent your weekend, but I'm hoping it was a bit more chill than mine ๐Ÿ˜…
Full transparency, sometimes as an AI trainer I get booked to do work through other companies discussing a tool or topic that I have never done before. There is always a first time for everything.
It is not the ideal situation and I would never sell something for myself that I was not 100% confident in, but in the world of AI things are moving so quickly and if you work with other companies that are selling the latest training it does happen. What that means is that you have to upskill super quickly so that you can deliver the information clearly and confidently to others. Of course that is a great way to learn really fast, but under a lot pressure, which can be stressful. And this has happened ever since I started freelancing as an AI trainer.
Again, not ideal. But unlike someone who is just getting started with AI trying to upskill in a new tool or system, I have three years of knowledge to fill in the gaps and filter out what is and isn't useful for the audience I'm training to.
The most recent case of this happening involved Claude Cowork and I guess N8N, both of which I had never tested before last week.
THE PROBLEM
My computer wouldn't allow me to access Claude Cowork ๐Ÿซฃso in the last week, including my whole Saturday and part of Sunday I was troubleshooting on my laptop to try to get it to work. Well over 10 hours of work and in the end I also had to spend ยฃ119 for a new Microsoft windows key, as well as resetting my entire computer. But I now have Claude Cowork working on my laptop ahead of my training next week. Massive relief!
You can learn about AI tools through training and youtube videos, articles, blogs etc, but until you actually get your hands on it and test it out yourself, it's hard to fully understand it and teach it well.
Now I'm trying to take all the complexity of these tools, create useful examples for my training as well as stories and metaphors to help others learn. As an AI trainer you really do have to learn the hard way to make it easier for others in a lot of cases and sometimes you have to learn that very last minute.
BUT!! This is key, because of everything I had to do to get Claude Cowork to work on my computer, I learned a lot about a lot of techie things and hardware fixes I didn't know before and I can now save other people maybe 10 hours and several headaches in case they encounter similar issues. After troubleshooting in both chatgpt and claude I created a full system report of everything I had done so if I needed to pick things back up I have a full summary and can use that in a new chat (I also had Claude check chatgpts work before doing any of the extreme stuff that I had to do including buying a new license key and resetting my entire computer after backing up and saving everything, effort)
After the full report I asked Claude to create a short checklist for anyone thinking about getting Claude Cowork to see if their machine is compatible. It's not perfect and very much a first draft that is tailored to all the things I tested, but I've attached it here in case it is useful for you.
Let me know if you have any questions and have a great week!
