Fabulous Friday
What was your biggest win, accomplishment, or something you’re super proud of this week or upcoming weekend?
For me? Getting through my husband’s first colonoscopy. No joke.
When he gets stressed, he struggles to retain information, and it’s slowly gotten worse with age.
I’ve had a theory about this for a while. No right or wrong here, just observation mixed with things I’ve learned over the years.
My work requires constant mental problem-solving, critical thinking, adapting, learning, and processing. His work is more physical, hands-on, and built around skills and knowledge he already knows deeply.
From what I understand through people like Tony Robbins and Joe Dispenza, the brain and nervous system are always adapting to what we repeatedly practice. The more we live in stress, fear, urgency, or predictability, the more automatic those patterns become.
So when he notices himself forgetting things or struggling to process information under pressure, his body immediately goes into panic mode. And once the nervous system shifts into stress and survival, the brain becomes less efficient at retaining, processing, and recalling information in the moment.
It’s almost like the fear of “something’s wrong with me” creates even more overload.
I think a lot of us experience versions of this. You walk into a room and forget why. Someone asks you a question while you’re overwhelmed and your brain blanks. You reread the same sentence 4 times because your mind is somewhere else.
Sometimes it’s not a lack of intelligence. Sometimes the system is just overloaded.
The cool part? The brain and body are adaptable. We can build new patterns, new emotional responses, and calmer states over time.
Anyways… that was my win this week. We survived the prep, the stress, the overthinking, and the procedure. 😂 He did have a couple polyps removed, and they are in for testing, but I truly feel they are all good.
