I need some honest advice from people more experienced than me.
I’m just starting out, so I took on a client at a very low price ($29/month) to build proof and testimonials.
But I think I may have created a bigger problem.
Here’s what I’ve done for this client in ~2 months:
- Built a full website
- Optimized his Google Business Profile
- Listed him on directories
- Designed his Facebook page
- Created posters + videos for social media
Results so far:
- Google ranking improved from outside top 30 → around position 13
- Calls increased from ~4/month → ~7/month
- Website generated a lead
But the client:
- Didn’t follow up properly on the lead
- Says he “paid for nothing”
- Doesn’t count ranking improvements because he created the profile himself
- Compares me to others promising page 1 in 4 weeks
To be fair, I even told him:
“I’ll work for free until you get a lead.”
A lead came… but since it didn’t turn into a job, he still doesn’t count it.
Now I feel stuck.
My questions:
1. Am I undervaluing myself by doing all of this for such a low price just to get testimonials?
2. How do you handle clients who don’t follow up but blame you for no results?
3. At what point do you stop trying to prove value and just walk away?
4. Is this a client problem — or am I structuring my offers the wrong way?
I want to improve and do this properly, so I’d really appreciate honest feedback 🙏
