π¨ STOP. DO THIS BEFORE YOU PICK YOUR NICHE.
Okay so I was about to make the biggest beginner mistake.
Had my niche picked. Tab was open. Ready to start cold-calling.
Then I actually validated it against these 5 filters... and I realized I was about to waste 3 months building for the wrong client type.

HERE'S THE FRAMEWORK THAT STOPPED ME:
**FILTER 1: THE MONEY TEST**
Can they actually afford a monthly retainer?
Not "would they love this."
Do they have the BUDGET?
A restaurant with 10% net margins? They're not paying $3K/month. They're paying for inventory and rent. You're not even in the conversation.
FAIL.
**FILTER 2: THE CHURN TEST**
How stable is the business type itself?
SaaS companies stay in business. Restaurants? 50% fail in 5 years.
Your beautiful automation doesn't mean anything if the business closes down. You built something great for a ghost client.
FAIL.
**FILTER 3: THE SPEED TEST**
Can they make a decision in less than 30 days?
Healthcare has REAL money β but approval takes months. You're not closing in 2 calls. You're waiting for board approval. Committee meetings. Legal review.
FAIL.
**FILTER 4: THE LIABILITY TEST**
Does your workflow touch:
- Patient data?
- Financial transactions?
- Legal advice?
If yes, you just inherited liability. Risk management. Compliance obligations. Most beginners don't know how to handle this.
**FILTER 5: THE INTEGRATION TEST**
Does it connect to the tools they actually use?
Or are you building a bridge between 4 legacy systems that were designed in 1995 and don't talk to each other?
That's a 3-week "simple" project that becomes a nightmare.
FAIL.

THE NICHES THAT ACTUALLY PASS ALL 5:
β
**Home Services (HVAC, Plumbing)**
- High-ticket jobs (customers pay premium)
- Fast decision-making (they need it NOW)
- Clear ROI (missed calls = lost money, they calculate it instantly)
- Result: Landing $2-4K retainers for automations you build in a weekend
β
**Dental / Med Spa**
- People pay premium prices (cosmetic + health = high willingness to pay)
- Patient lifetime value is $10K+ (one client = long-term revenue)
- Owner can see exactly what a missed appointment costs
- Easy sell because math is simple
β
**SaaS Support**
- Churn is literally a number in a spreadsheet
- Owner can calculate exactly what support improvements = retention
- ROI conversation is straightforward
- Technical clients = less hand-holding

THE BIGGEST BEGINNER TRAP:
**RESTAURANTS.**
I almost picked this one.
Why? Because it SOUNDS good on paper.
β 1 million restaurants in the US (huge market)
β Every guru recommends them (social proof)
β Every AI-generated niche list includes them (seems legit)
β Owners are clearly stressed and need help (feels like a fit)
So I had the tab open. I was READY.
Then I ran restaurants through the 5 filters:
Money Test? **FAIL.** (10-15% net margins = no budget)
Churn Test? **FAIL.** (50% fail in 5 years = client disappears)
Speed Test? **FAIL.** (Owner is stressed, can't decide fast)
Liability? Pass. (No patient data)
Integration? Pass. (POS systems are standard)
**3 FAILURES OUT OF 5.**
That's the MOST failures of any niche on the "obvious" list.
And here's what would've happened:
I'd be cold-calling stressed restaurant owners with tiny margins. They'd love the pitch but can't afford it. I'd chase them for months. They'd promise they'll budget it next quarter. Next quarter comes, cash flow is tight, they disappear. Business closes.
3 months wasted. Zero revenue. Burned out.
All because I didn't validate before I started.

HOW TO VALIDATE YOUR NICHE (The Real Process):
**Step 1: Run the 5 filters**
Score it. Don't vibe-check. Actually score it.
**Step 2: Find 3 real examples**
Can you see their marketing budget? Have they spent on tools before?
If they've never invested in any tool, they won't invest in you.
**Step 3: Ask 5 people in that space**
Not: "Would you use this?"
Ask: "How often does this problem cost you? How much time does it waste?"
Listen for FRUSTRATION, not politeness.
**Step 4: Check the actual numbers**
Retainer data. Failure rates. Churn. Not the industry buzzword.
This process takes 1-2 hours. Could save you 3 months.

I made a full video breaking down exactly how to apply this framework.
and the full pdf of this is as well added in post!
