Hermes Purpose?

I've just set up Hermes agent and as OpenAI/Codex had an issue (I've found a workaround now) I had it set up to Open Router.

Even with cheaper models like Deekseek V4 Flash. It was burning through api credits with a simple back and forth 5 minute discussion, nothing big or heavy. About $0.50. Doesn't sound a lot but certainly doesn't scale affordability wise.

So I'm at the point of wondering what the point is of Hermes? Seems like it will cost a small fortune and certainly not better than Codex (or I presume Claude Code). I get that it can run in the background, but every usage I think of would be better in N8n...?
