I really got into Peru this week! What started as one sketch turned into two sketches and even a poem. 🙈 The colours completely drew me in rich reds, turquoise blues and warm earthy tones everywhere I looked. 🙌🏻 That’s what I love about Around the World in 80 Sketches. Sometimes a place doesn’t just inspire a picture, it sparks a whole page of creativity. ❤️ Colours of Peru ❤️💜💙💛💚 High in the mountains, where colours run deep, The earth tells stories it has chosen to keep. Bands of turquoise, ochre, crimson and gold, Layers of culture, history and folklore untold. Somewhere beyond the clouds, I like to think Paddington began his journey with a hopeful wink. A small bear from Peru, with a suitcase in hand, Carrying kindness from this remarkable land. And as I sit and sketch beneath the vast blue sky, I find that colour speaks when words pass by.

This week our travels have taken us high into the Andes Mountains to the beautiful streets of Cusco, Peru. 🇵🇪 As I wandered through Street View, I found myself completely charmed by the narrow cobbled streets, colourful doorways and the feeling that every corner has a story to tell. The area we’re visiting is known as San Blas, the artisan quarter of the city, where artists and craftspeople have lived and worked for generations. (Peru Rail⁠) 🙌🏻👌 What I love most about this challenge is that no two weeks ever feel the same. This week our journey took us to Haiti, and although we couldn't explore it through Google Street View, I didn't want to skip over such an interesting country. Instead, I spent some time researching it, and I'm so glad I did. 🫶🏻❤️ Haiti occupies the western part of the island of Hispaniola in the Caribbean and is a country with a rich history, vibrant culture and incredible resilience. It has faced many challenges over the years, including natural disasters and widespread poverty, yet what struck me most was the creativity of its people. As I looked at the work of Haitian artists, I couldn't help but notice how bright, bold and full of life it all is. The paintings are bursting with colour, movement and joy. It made me wonder if art becomes even more important when life is difficult a way to celebrate beauty, tell stories and hold onto hope. That's one of the things I've loved most about Around the World in 80 Sketches. Every place teaches me something unexpected. 🌱💜 This week Haiti reminded me that creativity can flourish even in the hardest of circumstances, and that colour has a remarkable way of lifting the spirit. I created this Ink sketch on handmade paper, which is beautifully delicate and fragile. I found myself having to work carefully, which somehow felt fitting. Haiti has faced immense challenges throughout its history, and yet there is a resilience there that shines through. ❤️ I’ve also included some of the art I have come across while researching Haiti.
