Learning the Industry & Building Connections
For those already working with carriers or building dispatch businesses, what has helped you the most with creating long-term relationships early on? I’m still learning the industry from the Canadian side and trying to understand what matters most beyond just finding loads. Interested to hear different experiences and approaches from others here.

@Olivier Thibault @Barry Lewis I completely agree with Barry. In our industry, trust really is the most valuable currency. While finding loads is important, what truly makes a difference is understanding a carrier’s preferred routes, their capacity limits, and their business goals. That’s what transforms a one-time transaction into a lasting partnership. Carriers appreciate more than just someone who finds loads – they want a partner who is upfront and communicates clearly .

@Olivier Thibault thank you
Most Important Skill Before Handling Real Loads
Hi everyone! I’m still learning dispatching and Freight VA basics. One thing I’m realizing is that watching lessons is different from actually being ready to do the work. For those with experience, what skill do you think beginners should practice the most before applying? I’m asking because I want to focus on the skills that matter most in real daily operations, not just memorize terms.

@Grace G. I would say that all of the above are necessary to succeed as a dispatcher. But the most important will be bilding relationship with the carrier, broker and drivers. Anyone can learn where to click on a load board or how to fill out a carrier packet. But the current daily grind of a dispatcher is talking to brokers. one thing first, focus on Broker Communication/Negotiation closely paired with Rate Calculation/ Miles per rate. calculating the market average, factoring in fuel/deadhead .... ☆☆☆Communicate effectively and alway confidently*🎯💪🔥building strong relationships☆☆☆☆
