What’s Harder In Your Opinion ?
Recently, @Chris Legaspi, @Gimmel Goffe and I had a really interesting conversation and Drawing vs Painting. I’m in the belief that personally, drawing and linework is much more difficult than painting. Where describing form In line is extremely difficult for me because my brain starts drawing my ideas of what I’m looking at, instead of what’s actually going on. As opposed to painting, I’m forced to see edge and value and describe it as such. So what do you guys think? Is line drawing harder or easier than painting in your experience?

i agree with koen too..there’s times a sketch takes a while or not working and paint process flow is smooth.. then there’s times the sketch was perfect planning and painting was the hard part lol

but… for arguments sake depicting life through light and shadow is such a different art form i would say is harder. for me i find sketching is much easier

As a kid I wanted to be a penciller for Marvel, specifically for comic series called X-Force. So here is a commission for 10 year old Mike. In the process I found that I struggle with realistic eyelashes. Anyone have tips?

as far as tips for line art/penciling for lashes i darken it more for females vs male and extend the ends if that makes sense

not best example but something like this for a sketch and then refine. i rarely draw the middle or upper lashes.. i guess design choice, unless it calls for it like extreme up angle perspective or a close up shot straight on

I haven’t been able to do much drawing recently due to a couple of major life events happening concurrently. I have been doing a little bit here and there and I drew this portrait in blue pencil in my sketchbook. I don’t have a specific area of concern, but it doesn’t look finished to me. I know I could have placed it a bit lower on the page to give more space around the portrait (but that’s where it ended up on the page). I’m including the reference.I would really appreciate your advice. Thank you!

To Sit or Stand?
Having recently watched a video posted by @Edwin Caniete (Then and Now: Philip de László - YouTube) about Philip De laszlo on @Dima Jurf s post, I couldnt help but take note of the presenter talking about De Laszlo's painting approach of constantly stepping back. Ive also heard it suggested that Sargent wore a path in the floor of his studio and could "walk" several miles for a painting while constantly checking his work. I also know artists like James Gurney and Frank Frazetta among many others (Leyendecker+Rokwell??) typically work seated. I have, for many years, worked from a drafting table. That said, I also encounter many errors in draftsmanship that may be resolved by taking the Sargent approach. Unfortunately, I have no easel (or space presently) but am wondering everyone's thoughts on sitting vs standing. Do you think this is purely a matter of preference or is there more to it? Do you prefer to sit or stand while working? I wonder if @Chris Legaspi has any particular opinion regarding what is best suited for a learner.

Finally!
I wanted to ask whether anyone else out there can spend day after day drawing horrible faces before something you are pleased with finally appears on the paper. I think I've ripped up more pages this week than I have in the last 4 years ( not something I do really) - until at last I managed to draw this one. ❤️ I'm trying to stay positive and be "interested" in how I can be so inconsistent all of a sudden - and am keen to hear how other folk manage to get through a patch like this.
