Portrait in Oil from Pinterest
I chose this guy because I love the color and really wanted to indulge in the complements of orange and blue. For the blue I used a wild color called Carribean Blue from Old Holland.

Health and Group Update (10/1/25)
Hi all, sorry I've been so quiet. I've been ill for a few days, about 60% now. Tomorrow I will update the Community Project. October will be "The War on Beauty". Thank you for the beautiful artwork and energy again this month. Thank you to our moderators for holding down the fort. I have some exciting new plans for this month, such as regular livestreams. Let's continue the fight the restore beauty in our world. We are needed now more than ever.Thank you.✍️🙏

I’m sorry to hear that you were ill, Chris, and I’m glad that you are recovering. You’re right, we need all the beauty we can get, especially right now. I’m so grateful for this community!
Noa
This is Noa the model, with some Daniel Maidman influence. That man can draw the figure masterfully, pull the light from the toned paper, really love his work. I got it to a point where the sense of overworking starts to creep in. So this is final.

So beautiful, @Herbert van Willenswaard! I love how you’ve drawn her hands, with just suggestions of their form. The ever-so-slight outline of her torso is really nice and I love how you’ve framed her upper body with the circle.
Sketchbook Portrait
My first attempt at an oil portrait—not exactly what I hoped for, but every stroke feels like a step forward.

This is such a nice portrait, @Edwin Caniete , especially being your first oil portrait! The colors, shadows and background are really striking!
Rijksmuseum Amsterdam 🫶🏻
Today i went to the Rijksmuseum with my 15 year old son. We are very lucky to be able to visit several great museums in and around Amsterdam. The Rijksmuseum is my favorite. I really enjoyed being there together, talking about what we love in the museum. Today I saw a number of wonderful statues, catching light at interesting angles. And of course my favorite painting of all (and that’s saying something in a place with several rembrandts, von goghs, Vermeers, well you get the drift): Benares by Marius Bauer. Gets better every time I see it. ❤️

Such beautiful art @Koen Kuiphuis. Your son is so lucky to have a dad like you to enjoy a museum with! Thanks so much for sharing these lovely images of the art with us!

I love figure and portrait drawing! I graduated from Steve Houston’s Draws from Life program and I learned so much from Chris in the process.
