My bday present
So I got a bday present for myself (with help from my girlfriend). I’ve wanted one of these for so long. This is a custom made “Kelly-caster” made by Rick Kelly of carmine street guitars. He makes these out of reclaimed wood growth wood from historic buildings in NYC, selecting the most resonant pieces for these tone machines he calls “The Bones of Old New York”. Each one is unique in style and history. The wood for mine comes from the old speakeasy “Chumleys” at 86 Bedford (where the phrase 86’d was invented). If you’re interested there is a documentary on this legendary shop in YouTube and Tubi just called carmine street guitars about Rick and his protege, Cindy, making these insanely cool guitars. They also have an instagram showcasing what they are working on. After living in NYC for 8 years I feel so lucky to be carrying home a piece of the city in guitar form.

@Jonathan Lovell Cindy is awesome, super talented and a rocker through and through. We talked about me commissioning a HSS strat pick guard from her in the future. If you’re ever in NYC it’s worth a stop just to see the shop and chat.

I want to take a moment to say thank you. Seriously… thank you for putting your trust in Omni Guitars and being part of this community while we build something special together. This group is still early, still growing, and still being shaped by the people inside it — you. And the big mission we’re working toward (giving back to guitar players and making guitar more accessible) would not exist without this community. So first… gratitude. 🙏 We Need Your Help 🙌 As we grow, one of the biggest challenges is helping new guitar players understand that this community is real, active, and full of awesome people. The best way to do that? Real words from real members. I’d love to ask if you’d be willing to leave a short review about: • Your experience inside the community • What you like about Omni Guitars • Why you joined or decided to stay • Anything that surprised you so far It doesn’t need to be long or fancy. A few sentences is perfect. We’ll be taking screenshots of some responses (with your permission) to share on social media so future members can see what we’re building together. If you have your "World’s Okayest Guitar Player" sticker, we’d love if you included a photo of it in your comment. Seeing it out in the real world really helps us show others that this is real. Thank you 🙏

I’ve thoroughly enjoy being a part of the Omni guitar community. I’ve purchased a few products from Omni and you really get a lot of bang for your buck, especially considering the discounts (and sometimes free stuff) they give to community members. I’ll admit, I joined for the gear but stayed for the community. The best part about the community is that there is no engagement farming, no algorithms or other issues you have when posting ideas or your own creative content. It’s just a group of music lovers posting what they are working on a getting feedback and encouragement from others who are genuinely interested in hearing each other. It’s also really cool to be asked for input on new product or ideas that the company is considering, it makes you truly feel like you’re a part of something.
So…..
I went to plug my acoustic/electric guitar into the amp cord and….. the hookup piece fell inside the guitar… Anyone have an idea to fix it WITHOUT taking the strings off?

@Ray Lawrence I had an issue with an acoustic where someone had drilled a whole slightly too large for the jack/strap button combo. It wore the whole out eventually and would pop right in like that, what I did is got two large washer and used my chord less drill to drills the holes in the washers out to the right slide. Then glued some felt on one side of each washer and re installed the jack with a washer on the inside and outside. Worked like a charm and didn’t look bad even. The washers developed a cool patina eventually. Also if you can’t get your hand in to reinstall your jack, you can loosens all the tension off the strings like I said before, then pop the end pins out of the bridge of some or all the strings and pull them to the side (be careful not to tangle them). Then when done just pop the strings and end pins back in, press them in firmly and retune the guitar. Hope that makes sense and helps a bit.

Throwback to my old band in London
I’m the skinny nerdy dude playing the hofner shorty (AKA the cricket bat as they called it there lol). Our name was Atlantic Rising and at one point the John Chapman Band after our front man who wrote all the music, I was very lucky for the opportunity to play with such talent as this group. Good times.

Does anyone else also play bass?
Recently got into it and found this awesome 1978 Gibson RD Artist bass. Well worn in and it looks super cool. It has active pickups and the built in compression circuit made by moog. It’s super heavy though, 12lbs, so I named it “the beast”. Anyone around my age will remember this is the same model that Krist Novoselic hit himself in the head with at the 1992 MTV VMA show 😝.

@Luke Maughan what did you notice about your play style that was different? I’ve noticed when I jam playing guitar now my timing is much better, drummers like me better now 😝. I also am making a lot more use of arpeggios which I’m now realizing I was foolishly neglecting in my play before.

@William Gentry I’ve been thinking about a short scale or a U bass, I ended up going the opposite way though with this long scale 12lb Gibson though haha. I figured it would be better to learn with though.
