The Interview Question You’re Probably Answering Wrong
“Tell me about yourself” is NOT your life story. If you start with: where you grew up every job since 2015 “I’m hardworking and passionate…” …you lose them. Interviewers are really asking: “Give me the 60–90 second version of why you’re a fit for THIS role.” What they want to hear ✅ What you do (professionally) ✅ What you’re good at that matches the role ✅ Proof you can deliver (even 1 result or example) ✅ Why you want this position/company That’s it. Use this VA-friendly formula (60–90 seconds) 1) Present: “I’m a ___ with ___ years supporting ___.” 2) Strength: “I’m strongest in ___ (skills that match the job).” 3) Proof: “For example, I ___ (result / outcome / clear win).” 4) Future: “I’m excited about this role because ___ (match to their needs).” Example: Executive VA (no EVA experience) “I’m an admin support professional with 3 years in customer support and operations. I’m strongest in inbox/calendar management, documentation, and keeping projects moving across teams. In my last role, I managed daily scheduling and follow-ups for a team and helped reduce missed deadlines by creating a simple tracking system. I’m excited about this role because you need someone organized who can take tasks off the executive’s plate and keep priorities moving.” Example: Entry-level / Career Shifter VA “I’m transitioning into VA work from BPO, where I built strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills. I’m great at handling high-volume tasks accurately, staying calm under pressure, and using tools like Google Workspace and CRM systems. @Gemma Coles, I like the human element, too. I usually choose something less about me and more about the interviewer. I pick something I feel we might have in common or they would think interestingly unique. I'm strategically trying to build rapport.
Why most SMM agencies die at 5–10 clients
Most SMM agencies don’t fail because they’re bad at content. They fail because the system breaks once volume appears. At 1–3 clients, everything feels manageable. You remember details. You improvise. You “just fix it.” At 5–10 clients, three things happen at once: • approvals become reactive • editing standards drift • clients start directing execution Nothing explodes. It just slows down. Turnaround increases. Revisions multiply. Emotional labor creeps in. The operator becomes the bottleneck without realizing it. The agency doesn’t collapse. It quietly stalls. People try to solve this with: – better content – more effort – hiring too early None of those fix ownership, flow, or decision overload. Agencies survive past 10 clients only when: creation stays low distribution scales roles stay narrow and systems move forward by default Most never install that layer. They don’t die from lack of skill. They die from lack of structure.

"…and systems move forward by default". This was the fix at a large institution I worked in. Instead of waiting for approvals, we assumed the approval, gave time for feedback, and moved forward whenever we heard nothing (i.e. the usual case). Sped delivery up immensely.

For my personal task/project tracking, I use TaskWarrior, but that's super niche. Professionally, I've used Google, Notion, Asana and a bunch of others that no longer exist or are no longer popular.
