A Gentleman's Vocabulary
"Unique" and "data" are used wrong all the time! I firmly believe that using our words carefully and accurately is a central aspect of being a well-intentioned gentleman. Vocabulary ensures that what we say is accurately understood by our audience (online and in person). Vocabulary is also the single strongest predictor of overall intelligence on standardized intelligence tests (this was my field of research for about a decade). In order to avoid this coming across as elitist, I want to stress that the two guidances below - certainly pet peeves of mine - are words we use every day rather than something only used in rarified academia or by some PhD on a sartorial forum... 🤓 Unique: its simple definition is "one of a kind". This is dichotomous, like a light is on or off. No in between. Therefore, nothing can be "really unique", or "largely unique" or nearly any other modifier applied to it. When something is not one of a kind, we still like "unique" because it sounds stronger than what we should probably say: very rare. It is, however, wrong and inaccurately conveys our intent. The only appropriate modifier for unique is something which clarifies the noun is becoming unique. If only three of something remain in the world and one is destroyed, saying the final two are "nearly unique" is appropriate. Data: this word is ALWAYS a plural. Datum is the word to describe a single piece of data. This is just like saying "this people is funny" when we mean "this person is funny". As a statistician, you can only begin to imagine how much this drives me nuts because of its near omnipresent use. "These data are impressive" may sound weird at first, but it is the only grammatically appropriate way to say it. I hope this was helpful and not pedantic!

As an RN, I see my colleagues make these types of errors with physicians regularly. The incorrect use of medical terminology can quickly cause a provider to dismiss your opinion. After using that level of our education to communicate with the good doctor, it’s both a regulatory requirement and best practice to ensure compliance to communicate instructions to our patients at about an 8th grade level. As some people are prone to say: “the struggle is real.”

Hello gentlemen. I’m a 46 year old registered nurse that works as part of a critical care transport program in southern IN. We work on a ground-based ambulance outfitted with most of the equipment you would find in any ICU room (there are 1 or 2 high risk, low volume modalities we do not transport). I coached high school sports for 20 years and really neglected myself in favor of taking on all of the hardships of my athletes. I’m out of that world now, and it’s been quite liberating. I love the RMRS channel on YouTube, and spend hours down the YT rabbit hole sometimes. My day-to-day uniform doesn’t leave much room for fashion, there’s only so much one can do with a Nomex flight suit, but I’ve undertaken the task of establishing a transitional capsule wardrobe, watch collection, fragrance collection, and grooming routine in the last few months. I’ve got a lot of weight to lose, but so far so good as I’ve lost 40+ pounds. Looking forward to being involved here.

On The Gentleman of Faith Podcast Titled: "Choose Respect Over Fear" Fear is not making you stronger - it is making you smaller. Anthony Buntyn breaks down why the image of the "tough guy" can sabotage your life, your relationships, and your future, and why respect is the real foundation of leadership, faith, and influence. Anthony shares the personal journey that shaped this message, from growing up with a speech impediment and insecurity to realizing that intimidation may get attention, but it never builds trust. He draws a sharp line between being feared and being respected, showing how fear creates distance, silence, and hidden opposition, while respect creates support, loyalty, and real connection. You'll discover: - Why people judge you in the first 10 seconds - and why that matters - How a "tough" persona can cost you opportunities at work, at home, and in business - The difference between fear, reverence, and genuine respect - Why changing how you dress, speak, and carry yourself can change how people respond to you - How faith and character shape the way others see you - Why Anthony believes the best version of a man is one who leads with dignity, not intimidation He also shares how the Society of Ordinary Gentlemen helped him grow into the man he wanted to become, along with practical encouragement for men who want to improve themselves, mentor the next generation, and live in a way that reflects their calling. Along the way, Anthony highlights the power of community, accountability, and intentional self-presentation - including the details of his journey with suits, etiquette, and even fragrances that help reinforce a gentleman's standard. If you have ever felt pressure to act hard, hide vulnerability, or prove your strength by making others uncomfortable, this episode will challenge that mindset. It is a direct, honest call for men of faith to choose respect over fear and to become someone people can trust, follow, and support. Perfect for men who are rebuilding their identity, growing in faith, or learning how to lead with confidence and character.

@Anthony Buntyn built my sports program on mutual respect. I treated my athletes with respect, and never wanted them to fear me. I wanted them to respect me and fear letting me down in terms of the high standards we set for ourselves. Not familiar with this particular channel, but will be looking for it.
