Until last week. I was given the opportunity to Keynote the @c2financialcorp annual sales rally in San Diego. Since that’s where my mother lives, she picked me up from the airport and we had dinner. When at the hotel, one of the vendors who had seen me speak before came up to say hi and asked my mom if she was going to see my presentation the next day. I feel kind of embarrassed that I didn’t even think to ask her. So I did, and she came 🙂 It was a wonderful full circle moment. She had a great time and even wrote me a stinking thank you card. 😭 As an added bonus, a long time, friend Eric Gillman came out to help run the book table, and I bumped into an old high school friend who I haven’t seen in 10 years, Michael Mauger. PS My only non-negotiable was to buy a San Diego Padres hat and I couldn’t find one anywhere until the last minute, in the furthest corner of the airport. Lol. San Diego never disappoints!

I changed something a few years ago in writing to the flight crew. I use to write my thank you letter and then give it to them on m way off the flight. There’s something fun about the mystery of giving the card almost anonymously, but there’s also something to be said for allowing people to connect and appreciate the person who was kind to them. Now, I give them the letter while they are getting our drink orders. I find that 80-90% of the time, they (usually multiple flight attendants) come by to thank me back. Sometimes, they are over the top, tears down the face, grateful, dumping snacks and cookies at the tray table. Other times, like today, the reaction was mild but anppreciative and came with a large bottle of water. (An early request that was denied😆). It’s never a “give to get” but there is power in allowing people to an opportunity to appreciate you back. As the great Jim Rohn said, “Giving is the start of the receiving process.” Movement maker- creating a culture of connection, resilience, and growth.
