Batman
This is the best piece I created from last night's costume drawing. The model has not only a Batman costume but a scarecrow costume. So what he's holding in his hand is the scarecrow mask. In the past I have struggled with drawing the different Batman models that we've had because there's so much black. I tried to pay attention to negative shapes, mid-tones, and shadows and I think it came out better. Probably could have added a few more highlights. Obviously I wouldn't call it realism but I thought it came out pretty decent for a 15-minute sketch. The model really liked it so I gave it to him.

15 minutes
Life drawing sketches
These are from cosplay figure drawing last night. The one on gray paper was 15 minutes and the other drawings were 10 minute sketches.

@Resea Rch thank you. For the one that's standing that uses straight lines, the model said that she wanted to appear mysterious or something like that. I can't remember the exact words but whatever she said I had that description in my mind while I sketched. The color ones were towards the end of the night so I was well warmed up and feeling pretty loose.

@Resea Rch The place I usually go is pretty casual. It's a pretty small group. We start out with several 2-minute poses, then 5 minutes, then usually a 10-minute pose, and then a break. The rest of the night will be filled with either 10, 15, or 20 minute poses. Often the models are pretty excited to come around and see everyone's work, but that's not always the case. I usually give the model one or two sketches that they like but that's not required. I just like doing that. Overall, it's pretty fun and I've made some good friends.

I like expressive realism with the subject of figurative fine art or portraiture. I believe the human person is endlessly fascinating and capturing the thoughts, feelings, or emotions of someone in a still image is a challenge and a privilege.

Guys I’m so curious, how can you draw scratches like in the reference?

The scratches are a very dark line, right next to a bright line if you look closer. If you lay down a line with a dark tonal value on the shadow side and then use something like a mono zero eraser on light side to remove value, it should make the scratch pop.

Middle aged in middle America. I like traditional, usually charcoal on toned paper.
