Our Bodies Need Lunch. Our Brains Want Dopamine...dun dun dun
One of the ideas in The Comfort Crisis (book) that really stuck with me is the distinction between biological hunger and reward-driven eating. It's not like I wasn't aware, it's just that it pointed to something that I often do...snack. Snack because something sounds good, snack because I'm having a hard time deciding what to do, snack because I'm stressed, snack because it's available, snack because I'm accustumed to snacking... snack. snack. snack. And my snacks? They're full on meals..ha. But how often do I actually neeeeeed to snack? Probably almost never because my body is barely ever actually hungry...And this? This isn't a good thing. Here's the difference: 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 This is our body saying: "I NEED energy.” It tends to build gradually and isn't necessarily picky. We're more likely to notice physical cues like an empty feeling in your stomach, low energy, or difficulty concentrating. If we're genuinely hungry, a fairly ordinary meal can sound pretty good. No fancy flavors or textures needed. 𝗥𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱-𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 This is more like: “I WANT that”. We might be completely physically satisfied but suddenly have an intense desire for cookies, chips, donuts, ice cream, or whatever our particular weakness happens to be. It can be triggered by: stress, boredom, habit, seeing or smelling food, emotions, fatigue, social situations, or simply knowing that something is available. Oh....availability...My nemesis. Unlike people in the past, modern life gives us almost unlimited access to food rewards. Availability. So, we end up responding to food cues/rewards instead of actual energy needs. And this has a negative impact on us. It gives us a dopamine boost, but it wreaks havoc on our bodies. So, what can we do about it? First, be aware!! Awareness allows for us to be intentional with our decision making: 𝗣𝗔𝗨𝗦𝗘 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Ask “What kind of hungry am I?” pause... When the desire to eat comes, ask: 1. Would I eat something relatively ordinary right now?

This was one of the reasons starting to fast intermittently was so powerful for me…learning that I didn’t actually need food to cope with life and with the stresses and emotions that came up throughout the day. It forced me to lean into other emotional tools and self care practices and helped me develop confidence in myself as someone who can deal with everything that comes my direction without needing food as a crutch

A Simple Way to Calm Overwhelm
Overwhelm usually gets stronger when everything feels urgent at the same time. One helpful reset: ✨Take 5 minutes and write down everything sitting in your mind. ✨Circle the few things that truly need your attention today. This creates mental space and helps your brain stop treating every thought like an emergency. The result is more clarity, calmer decisions, and a stronger sense of control throughout your day.

Solider vs. Scout Mindset: Which one are you using?
In @Steve Webb 's 30daychallengers group, some of us are doing a side challenge and reading the book "The Scout Mindset". It's been an informative read and had me reflecting on approaches to integrating new/challenging information, challening beliefs, and just overall communication with others. Below I'll do a quick overview of the difference between solider and scout mindset. Curious about where everyone fits and what you all think about this. :) 🪖 𝕊𝕠𝕝𝕕𝕚𝕖𝕣 𝕄𝕚𝕟𝕕𝕤𝕖𝕥 The goal here is to defend-protecting our current beliefs like territory. Attributes of this mindset include arguing in order to win, looking for confirming evidence, can feel threatened by opposing views and doubling down when challenged. Think debates. The pros related to this type of mindset are: having strong convictions, there's a loyalty to values and people can be decisive under pressure. The cons to this mindset include having blindspots, having a hard time updating beliefs with new information, and can have the tendency to escalate conflict. 🧭 𝕊𝕔𝕠𝕦𝕥 𝕄𝕚𝕟𝕕𝕤𝕖𝕥 The goal here is to see clearly. The point is to get a clear view of the map even if it challenges you. Integrating new information. Attributes of this mindset include being curious about opposing views, being on the search for disconfirming evidence, being comfortable with saying "i was wrong" or "I've updated my beliefs", and being able to adjust beliefs with new information. The pros related to this are that it contributes to more accurate (or updated) thinking, it's growth oriented and it can build trust because the other person feels heard. The cons are that it can feel destabilizing, it can contribute to slower decision making, and it can be perceived as less certain. --- Here's the thing...We all use both of these. The questions become "when" and "why". 𝐏𝐎𝐋𝐋:𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐟𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐝, 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐨: 𝐐𝐔𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍:What’s one belief you’re currently holding like a soldier that might benefit from a scout’s curiosity?

Self-Care Is Boundaries, Not Just Baths
This year marked 20 years of partnership with a company I aligned with around cleaner personal care and nutrition — and what stands out most isn’t the milestone. It’s the consistency. For two decades, my family has used the products daily. My kids grew up with them. Our nutrition and skincare are staples in our home — not because of trends, but because we made a decision about what we value. Here’s something I’ve observed: When you protect your health, your energy changes. When your energy changes, your decision-making improves. When your decisions improve, your results expand. Women who build sustainably don’t just manage time. They manage energy. And energy starts with the standards you’re willing to hold. What’s one area of your life where raising the standard would change everything?

Boundaries are super important! But baths are pretty good too, just sayin. Sometimes it takes some clear and solid boundaries to make time for yourself to take a bath!
