Are you a Boomer?

Aren't "boomers" really the biggest cohort in most Western countries if you look at native-born?
Europe's top bike producer? (Portugal Quiz, Monday 25th September, 2023)
Portugal was Europe’s largest bicycle producer in 2022, according to data released recently by Eurostat. The numbers tell us that Portugal was responsible for approximately 18% of total bicycle production in Europe, where Romania also form the leader pack, followed in volume by Italy, then Germany and Poland who all contribute impressively to the total of 14.7 million bicycles produced within the European bloc. How many bicyles did top makers Portugal produce in last year's table-topping effort?

Europe's top bike producer? (Portugal Quiz, Monday 25th September, 2023)

Let me see... assuming the average European buys one every 10 years (a wild guess), that means about 50 million bikes sold per year with a population of 500 million... if 1/2 are produced in Europe (another wild guess) and about 1/5 (18%)are made in Portugal that means 1/10 of the 50 million or... about 5 million. There are two options: one for 4.7 million and another for 5.7 million... since this page tends to be a Portugal booster... I will go with the higher number.

Eek... either I didn't read carefully enough or the question was changed since I read it. The answer is right in the question (i.e. 18% of 14.7 million, with a "rounding error")!

A Place in The Sun: Caldas Da Rainha? (Portugal Quiz: 13th September, 2023)
I found myself filming with the crew of UK TV show 'A Place in The Sun' this morning, in Caldas da Rainha - a place of interest for the stars of the show, Suzanne & David, who are home-hunting on Portugal's Silver Coast. Stood in the town's Dom Carlos I park (he who was assassinated in the early 20th Century) amusing ourselves with talk of phallic ceramics and confectionery, I spoke too of the place's name and what I thought it meant. According to wikipedia: "The settlement was founded in the 15th century by Queen Leonor (Rainha Dona Leonor), who established a hospital and a church at the site of some therapeutic hot springs ... the oldest purpose-built institution of its kind in the world, with five centuries of history". I had always thought 'Caldas' meant 'syrup' having seen unruly translations in passing, but what is Caldas Da Rainha thought to REALLY mean? Video: Show presenter Ben, who I met this morning Pics: Dom Carlos I, @Thunder Duck's postcard of the boating lake in the park, phallic confectionery, and me with Suzanne, David & Ben.

Well, "caldo" is stew or a warm, watery broth. "Caldas" can mean sugar dissolved in warm water, or thermal baths. The common element seems to be warm water and / or water with something dissolved in it (e.g. minerals). https://dicionario.priberam.org/caldas
Reddy, unsteady, GO!
In a scene deeply upsetting to many a wine lover, "a river" of DOC red wine "suitable for consumption" ran through a Bairrada street yesterday, near Anadia. "The red wine poured down the street without causing any injuries and led to the flooding of the road and of at least one cellar," reports the Portugal News. "The company involved 'deeply regrets the incident', but residents have protested against what the company considers an 'incident', the causes of which 'are being investigated by the competent authorities'," continues the News. How many litres of wine were spilled?
