What do you all to to try to keep from bolting
This weather is a pain on some plants. I look forward to my calabrese and dill etc and despite shielding them from sun(as much as can) with mesh they go so fast. Have you had this happen record breaking speeds this year? Any hints or tricks?

We had a few early cabbages, but the later ones didnt do well, despite all of our efforts. Caulis outdoors have come to nothing, the same with the broccoli. So im going to get an early polytunnel crop of these over winter, they work well in the tunnel.
Folic Acid to be added to ALL
Well here we go again… F Acid to be mandated in Dec 26 to all flour and wheat products in the uk . Nothing is sacred anymore 🤬 James has a very informative podcast with many links.

They touch anything and everything. We need to look at how our ancesters did things, seems to me, they were doing lots of things right! Ill be buying my flour from small mills and will carry on baking my own .

Mary, i think it started many years ago, by design. it begins right at nursery, junior and high school. Make the parents go back to work, put the babies in nursery very young, no parents allowed in school (just drop off) and so it goes on. Its a generation (or two) that were deliberately controlled, stopped from free thinking and asking questions. They are told what to do, and how to do it. I was a TA at a local school for a few years, i left, because it was breaking my heart and i wanted no part of it. They also make it so easy not to try these things because they want to control how things move forward. I am proud to be who i am, i am glad i asked questions and realised it was all going horribly wrong, because it has given me time to go back to older ways, educate my children (most of them!) and know that they will go forward with this knowledge. Im not there with everything but i am going to keep trying. I worry about the millions who have NO clue what is going on!

Some great comments above, i totally agree with you all. It seems like common sense that this should already be the way it is done....though we all know the reasons it not! Transparency and honesty, whats not to like.
Something is hampering veg growth?
I have been growing veg and flowers for as long as I remember. And their management as a groundsmen of an estate. I have over the last couple years I have noticed something, but not being able to put my finger on what that is. Plants struggling to take hold. Mature plants just giving up the ghost. Plants not putting on healthy growth in prime conditions. In the estate there are many ornamental shrubs biannual and perennials. The biennials would be prolific self seeders. This year it has been so noticeable that biennials have not grown. The perennials seem stressed where grow has been weak. This has also noticeable in the allotment and the orchard. The apple and pears are carrying 70% less fruit this year. Early veg has been weedy. On the estate there watering systems so it not down water stress. This is well drawn water I would add. It feels like there is some changing and I don’t buy the climate crisis. Is anyone else noticing similar issues???

I am sorry to hear you are all experiencing difficulties this year, however , i am also pleased to hear that it isnt just me! So many failures, poor seed germination. outdoor crops are not thriving as they should. Our really good crops have been inside the polytunnel, and for that i am so grateful. Some things ,as much as we try, we cannot change, but i so hope the world wakes up and realises what has been happening and then we can start to fight back. Dont give up, dont let them win.
