Forgotten Features: Stained Glass ✨
Stained glass is one of those design features that adds character, colour, privacy, and beauty to a home and I’m not sure why it ever went out of style. Stained glass can be a great alternative to room-darkening curtains or blinds, especially if you have a window that faces: - another building - the street - a neighbour’s house - or just a bad view It lets in natural light while adding privacy, and the changing colours and light throughout the day can make a room feel so much more alive. 🌈☀️ It’s also a beautiful way to bring more personality into a home, and it doesn’t have to feel old-fashioned. Stained glass can be designed to suit traditional, cozy, vintage, eclectic, or even more modern spaces. There’s a sustainability side to it also — vintage stained glass panels can often be found in antique shops or salvage yards, and can even be upcycled into cabinet fronts that add character while reducing waste. You can also connect with a local artisan to create a custom piece to fit your style and colour palette. It can be built in or simply hung over an existing window. Stained glass is more than a nostalgic detail. It is a colourful, mood-boosting design feature that can bring personality and originality to your home and it definitely needs to make a comeback.💚 Where would you use stained glass in your home — a front window, bathroom, kitchen, or somewhere else?

@Tara Bergdoll Before the advent of digital cameras, I don't think I can even get the images. 🙅‍♀️

@Tara Bergdoll yup, I ask myself the same. I am a compulsive photographer and all my phone memories and drives are full of nature shots, happy selfies and cat pics!😳
Make Your Room Feel Calmer in 2 Hours 🌿
If you have a room in your home that’s making you feel stressed or overwhelmed, there are several things you can do in a couple of hours to bring calmness into your space, without buying a single thing. 🏡 Your home has the power to influence how you feel and can impact many aspects of your life including how you focus, work, relax, rest, and recover from stress. A poorly designed space creates visual noise which can lead to increased feelings of stress, distraction and overwhelm. A calm room can actually reduce mental strain and help you to feel rested and recharged. The good news is that you can make a significant difference in your home in just a few hours by editing, rearranging, and simplifying what you already own. So fill your water bottle, put on some music and get ready to reclaim your space! 🙌 ✅ The quick reset: 1. Grab an empty basket and remove anything that doesn't support the purpose of the room. 2. Edit with intention and only keep what supports your goals for the space. 3. Focus on how your space flows and reposition anything that's making it difficult to move around the room. 4. Soft lighting calms your nervous system. Use natural light and lamps instead of overhead lighting when possible. Add dimmer switches and use warm bulbs. 5. Reduce visual clutter by grouping similar items together and leave some empty space to create a sense of calm. 6. Add one special object like a favourite photograph, a cozy chair, or a vibrant plant to personalize your space. 7. Want the room to feel calm, relaxed, or focused? Try a natural candle, incense, or essential oils to set the tone: 🔹Focus: rosemary, peppermint, eucalyptus 🔹Relax: lavender, chamomile, sandalwood 🔹Calm: citrus, bergamot, cedarwood 8. Sit quietly in your room for a few minutes. Ask yourself how the room is feeling. The goal isn't a perfect space, it's simply to make everyday life feel better. Make a couple of final tweaks, and then take a deep breath and enjoy your newly refreshed space!✨

Totally with you on this! I am a great believer in having breathing space around things. Sometimes, this may not be possible because the place is small and your needs are many. But even then, the moment you are able to group stuff together, it already creates a lot of calm. Love warm lighting, lamp shades, and even the fairy lights! I'll just add one little thing about the essential oils or scented candles, etc. Make sure always that it is natural and organic. Otherwise, it can be really toxic, especially the scented candles.

@Tara Bergdoll There are people who say that environment doesn't matter, I just can't understand them. 🙈 For me, it matters a tremendous amount.

I loved this article. Minimalism can be very calming in short doses, however, it is very cold and clinical. In Feng Shui shades of grey, steel grey, are considered to be very depressing colours for the soul. The challenge is obviously to make sure it doesn't look cluttered. I love having old stuff around. I love having stuff that's been made by hand. I have a few gorgeous pieces. I will be coming back to this article. Thank you.
🌞 New Lesson Inside: The Sunroom as a Wellness Space
Most people think of sunrooms as “nice to have” spaces, but you might be surprised at all the ways a sunroom can improve your wellbeing. A well-designed sunroom can become one of the most powerful wellness spaces in your home. It can support your mood, your sleep, your focus, your movement, your pets, your family life—and even your home’s energy efficiency. In other words, it’s not just extra square footage. It’s a multiplier for how your home works for you. 🌿 In this lesson, I walk you through: - Why natural light changes how your brain & body function - How a sunroom can become a space for calm, work, fitness, family, or even growing food! - The science-backed benefits of daylight, plants, and nature views - How to think about styling a sunroom based on what you actually need more of in your life Like the rest of your home, designing your sunroom is all about supporting your personal priorities and creating a space that makes your life better. If you’ve ever wished you had a brighter, calmer, room in your home, this lesson is for you.💚

I loved the word when I came across it on my socials. 'Hygge' sounds like HUG to me, exactly what it does.
