🌍 New FREE lesson just posted in the Classroom!
In honour of Earth Day this month, I've put together a FREE lesson called "Sustainability at Home: 10 Ways to Help Our Planet". It's all about how the choices we make at home can be good for the planet and genuinely good for how we feel every day. Natural materials, biophilic design, energy efficiency, buying better instead of more — practical ideas you can actually try this week, at any budget. Head to the Classroom tab to check it out 👆 And once you've had a read, please come back and tell me which idea you're going to try first? I'd love to know 💚

Forgotten Features: Stained Glass ✨
Stained glass is one of those design features that adds character, colour, privacy, and beauty to a home and I’m not sure why it ever went out of style. Stained glass can be a great alternative to room-darkening curtains or blinds, especially if you have a window that faces: - another building - the street - a neighbour’s house - or just a bad view It lets in natural light while adding privacy, and the changing colours and light throughout the day can make a room feel so much more alive. 🌈☀️ It’s also a beautiful way to bring more personality into a home, and it doesn’t have to feel old-fashioned. Stained glass can be designed to suit traditional, cozy, vintage, eclectic, or even more modern spaces. There’s a sustainability side to it also — vintage stained glass panels can often be found in antique shops or salvage yards, and can even be upcycled into cabinet fronts that add character while reducing waste. You can also connect with a local artisan to create a custom piece to fit your style and colour palette. It can be built in or simply hung over an existing window. Stained glass is more than a nostalgic detail. It is a colourful, mood-boosting design feature that can bring personality and originality to your home and it definitely needs to make a comeback.💚 Where would you use stained glass in your home — a front window, bathroom, kitchen, or somewhere else?

It’s Spring Reset Time 🌿
It’s that time of the year again! If you’re anything like me, you’re more than ready for the arrival of spring and excited to give your home a spring refresh. But before you jump straight into decorating, it helps to ask yourself a simple question: "What is causing me stress in my home?" 🤔 Look at things like: - a disorganized front entrance that feels chaotic - a messy kitchen drawer where you can never find what you’re looking for - an overstuffed closet that creates anxiety - jumbled cables that create visual noise around your tv or workspace - surfaces that have become a drop zone for clutter - improper or harsh lighting - a leaky bathroom faucet that drips all night Once you’ve addressed these daily annoyances, it’s time to start the simple 3 step RESET process: ➡️ STEP 1: Declutter 🧺 - clear out what you no longer need, use, or love - start with the spots that create the most daily friction ➡️ STEP 2: Clean 🧹 - give your space a proper refresh by wiping surfaces, washing linens and cleaning windows - wipe down outdoor furniture and clean outdoor light fixtures ➡️ STEP 3: Refresh & Redecorate 🌷 Now bring in a few simple seasonal touches: - add a few pillows in fresh spring colours to your bedroom and living room - fill a vase with flowers or simple branches (real or faux) for your dining table - add some potted herbs or plants to your kitchen window - create a welcoming entry by adding a spring wreath to your front door and a new welcome mat - add some outdoor lighting (lanterns, fairy lights etc) to maximize your time outside Spring decorating doesn’t have to be complicated. Just a few thoughtful changes can make your home feel calm, refreshed, and much easier to live in. 💚 What’s the one spot in your home that creates the most daily friction right now—and what’s one small change you could make this week to fix it?

Make Your Room Feel Calmer in 2 Hours 🌿
If you have a room in your home that’s making you feel stressed or overwhelmed, there are several things you can do in a couple of hours to bring calmness into your space, without buying a single thing. 🏡 Your home has the power to influence how you feel and can impact many aspects of your life including how you focus, work, relax, rest, and recover from stress. A poorly designed space creates visual noise which can lead to increased feelings of stress, distraction and overwhelm. A calm room can actually reduce mental strain and help you to feel rested and recharged. The good news is that you can make a significant difference in your home in just a few hours by editing, rearranging, and simplifying what you already own. So fill your water bottle, put on some music and get ready to reclaim your space! 🙌 ✅ The quick reset: 1. Grab an empty basket and remove anything that doesn't support the purpose of the room. 2. Edit with intention and only keep what supports your goals for the space. 3. Focus on how your space flows and reposition anything that's making it difficult to move around the room. 4. Soft lighting calms your nervous system. Use natural light and lamps instead of overhead lighting when possible. Add dimmer switches and use warm bulbs. 5. Reduce visual clutter by grouping similar items together and leave some empty space to create a sense of calm. 6. Add one special object like a favourite photograph, a cozy chair, or a vibrant plant to personalize your space. 7. Want the room to feel calm, relaxed, or focused? Try a natural candle, incense, or essential oils to set the tone: 🔹Focus: rosemary, peppermint, eucalyptus 🔹Relax: lavender, chamomile, sandalwood 🔹Calm: citrus, bergamot, cedarwood 8. Sit quietly in your room for a few minutes. Ask yourself how the room is feeling. The goal isn't a perfect space, it's simply to make everyday life feel better. Make a couple of final tweaks, and then take a deep breath and enjoy your newly refreshed space!✨

@Tina Saxena yes, always avoid toxic ingredients! Grouping items together is such a simple thing, but a neat stack of books looks intentional versus books scattered all over the place. Warm lighting really does makes such a difference--I'm always amazed at how much more relaxed I feel as soon as I dim the lights or light a candle.🕯️

@Tina Saxena I'm so glad you enjoyed this lesson and you've figured out the secret! You mentioned "having a few gorgeous pieces" and that's exactly the way to make it work. I'm a big fan of minimalism (when it's done right), but there's definitely a fine line between minimal and empty feeling. Making intentional choices about texture, lighting and colour can make a huge difference to the feeling in a space. 🥰
