An Elephant Never Forgets
When I was a kid I spent a lot of weekends with my Grandma, and she would always let me get some ROLOs whenever we went shopping. Slowly getting better at all the things, turns out it's the lighting that makes all the difference for materials like caramel.

@Patrick Levar yeah no problem. I look forward to seeing what you come up with. As an important side note my rolo model is 10x bigger than real life. So all the sss values are artistically tuned, not real world measurements. EDIT: just realised I hadn't applied the scale on the caramel 🤦‍♀️ so updating this image with the new setup that gives a similar result.

My Otter Family
This is a model I created for my husband a few years ago, it's a representation of our family as his favourite animal, otters. Lately I have been playing around with learning more about rendering, lighting and materials. I love the way light plays with food and candy so why not combine the two things together 😅 So here we are, a chewey caramel sticky and delicious family of otters 🤤🤣

@Patrick Levar thanks, I used your start-up scene as a launching point. Not sure what settings you have that are different to what I was doing before, but yours is way more responsive rendering in the viewport than mine. 👍

If you’ve been lurking, that’s normal. Most people do. Let’s get a little activity going. Reply with ONE of these: • A render you’re working on (finished or not) • A problem you’re stuck on in Blender or Octane • Or just comment “👀 or here” so I know you’re around No pressure. No judging. No critiques unless you ask for it. I’ll reply to every comment.

Been wanting to get more understanding and intuition for lighting and materials. I'm new to blender and even newer to octane. What better way to explore materials and light than to recreate delicious food, I even get to eat the reference material 🤣😋. I want to figure out subsurface scattering and stacking textures in a procedural workflow (what do we say to the god of UV's? That's right, "Not today!")

@Patrick Levar looks like you had a lot of fun at that event!! And you got a little Gus the Pug key chain?! So cute! I have a Gus the Pug figurine that sits proudly on my desk. Yeah Patrick and I are good friends via discord, actually he is the reason I first learned about cinema 4d, octane and why I got to meet EJ a couple years back when Camp Mograph came to Australia. Patrick randomly asked me if I was going and I was like "huh? What's a Mograph?" 🤣 So glad I went, I was the only person there who didn't Mo graphs (I made static 3d sculptures/figurines for 3d printing and board games pieces and stuff like that) but everyone was so friendly and interesting. If you ever get a chance to go to a Camp Mograph, 100% take it.
