Perfection is a myth!
I put a lot of effort into making sure that my content is NOT super polished. I make food/meals that anyone can make, and therefore I make videos that, for the most part, look like anyone can make. It’s why I still do, and likely always will, shoot my videos on my iPhone. I could whip out my wife’s professional Canon camera and set up all the lighting and have some very high quality looking videos posted on social media, but that’s not what I’m going for. I was, after all, a wedding videographer for a handful of years. When someone comes across my page I want them to realize that the meal is easy enough to make that they could do it too! That’s why I share stuff like the below picture. Life happens, and yesterday life happened. I started making some hoagie rolls for tonight’s steak sandwiches, and I was also doing some projects in the house all day. I ended up letting these rolls over proof, so they ended up flat. However, they still taste amazing. And they’re made with real, quality whole food ingredients, unlike that which we find in grocery stores. So let this be a lesson. It doesn’t have to be perfect. You just have to put in the effort to get it done and that’ll take you 95% of the way there. And when it comes to feeding your family…95% of the way there is pretty darn good! Cheers! Jake

Real life is best way.
Weekly Meal Plan
Drop a comment if you’d be interested in me sharing our weekly meal plan at the start of every week? It’s not something we really even do right now. I just keep notes in my phone but I’d happily start writing it down and sharing it in here if there’s interest. Let me know! Note: it likely wouldn’t always include the recipe, because many times I’m trying something new out, or don’t have it written down yet, but that’s something I can always work to add or create later as well if it’s popular.

I was a sahm for 13years been back to working for 10 now. My kids are older but all are still home. However, I'm not sure I would have survived without a meal plan all those years. It's one of the best tools to make sure we eat a real dinner 90% of the nights and don't turn to fast food or when they were little just chicken nuggets or something frozen/quick. I think one of the key things to picky eaters is always serve one item you know they will eat but put everything on their plate. My kids are older and eat pretty much everything now. Every vegetable you can think of was served over the years. My youngest was the biggest hold out but even he at 16 is now a really good eater of all things. I feel like half the battle is exposure and persistence. Oh and prioritizing sitting down at the table as a family most nights.

😩 I know that it seems like every time we open our phones someone is telling us about a new app or website or person we need to follow, or movie we need to watch, etc… 😌 I think that this app, Skool, and this community, Food & Freedom, although new, will help to undo some of that frustration and anxiety of constantly being pushed and lulled across the internet with our very limited time. 👀 Check out this quick video, then as it says at the end, drop a quick introduction. 🏡 Where you’re from, what you hope to get out of Food & Freedom, and one thing that you self proclaim as your area of expertise, or something you take great interest in. Alright…chat soon! -Jake

48 year mom/wife/educator. I've been married for 24 years to my college sweetheart. We have three beautiful children that are mostly young adults but all live with us. My youngest is 16 and in high school. My middle is 20 and just finished her associates degree and awaiting acceptance to the RAD tech program. My oldest is 22 and just finished his bachelors in applied mathematics and he and his soon to be fiancé are living in our basement as they save to buy their first home. I work in an Elementary school special education classroom as a paraprofessional for children with moderate to severe autism. I was a sahm for 13 years while I got my kids all raised to an age i could return to work. I have worked in education the last 10 years. I have spent most my life teaching myself to cook and bake and most home making things. I am interested in making a less processed more real food cooking style for us all. I dabble in plants and love bird watching. Live in the Midwest(St.Louis) area. Look forward to learning some more unprocessed cooking and baking. I would love to gain confidence in sour dough baking.
