Practice at home
Hey guys! So I have been trying to practice at home and realize I fall a LOT at home. So after my kid had to pick me up the last time 👀😂 I realize that it’s the finish on my bamboo floors. It’s waaaay too slick for my wheels. So the other night (well the wee hours of the morning) I ordered some interlocking dance floor tiles (like the in/out but way less) and am going to remove everything out of my dining room and change that into my practice area. We only use the table for mail anyway 🤷🏽‍♀️😂😂

@Signorina Rollini I tried to stick to hybrid wheels, but they felt too grippy for slick floors. Finding the right wheels feels like kissing frogs to find a prince 🤣

@Signorina Rollini I haven’t. But they may be too slick for my skill level 😬
Late Bloomer
I’ve thought of skating like learning to play spades. If you didn’t learn before 17, it’s too late for you. But at 41, I’ve bought a pair of skates and PPE, so let me see how much I can learn without breaking anything important

I started at 46, broke my ankle at 47 (the first injury in my life), and I'm still skating at almost 50. My husband doesn't like it, but it's not his choice. The kids are ok with it, but they don't have much of a say either 😂.
Spread eagle
Okay so I have been stretching and trying and trying but it just seem like my leg will not go into a spread eagle for the life of me. Instead of my feet being in a straight line it’s more like a v but a very wide v I don’t know what to do cause the stretching not working

I don't have any advice, but just wanted to say that I can do it off skates, but when I put the skates on, I can hold the position...

@John Mattias You're not alone!
The Legendary Struggle of the Almost Spread Eagle 😂🛼
Y’all, I think my legs have a personal vendetta against the spread eagle 😭. No matter how much I stretch, they REFUSE to line up—they just stay in this disrespectful wide V like I’m summoning a skating demon 💀. At this point, I might as well start calling it the ‘Peace Sign Glide’ ✌️😂. Someone, please tell me there’s hope before I accept my fate as the master of the Almost Spread Eagle! 🛼🔥

I don't know about hope, but I'll start calling my disrespectful wide V a peace sign from now on 😂!
Learning IRL
This week I had my first skate lesson IRL, which was a game changer! I started skating in 2022 using online tutorials (free and paid). I looked for local places to learn and at that time I could only find very basic instruction. I wanted better tutoring, but didn't know where to look. Fast forward to 2025, and I found someone who is an excellent known skater and teaches local private lessons. I bit the bullet and booked him. My goal was to look at basics and technique. I was a nervous wreck, PTSD from when I fell and broke my ankle was kicking my butt on the day. The lesson was excellent (yes I was scared and very anxious). I went home with insights that helped me understand, improve, and polish many moves. Totally worth it!

@Jay Griffin, I love all the online content, and it's pretty helpful, but receiving honest IRL feedback and having someone point out and show me how to make certain moves made a big difference.

🦩on 🛼 - Started skating at 47. Back on skates after a mandatory break to heal a broken ankle and have skated more after injury than before!
