First bisque fire
My first bisque fire was successful! I just emptied it a little on the warm side (~175F) and everything seems to have fared well. I was a little concerned that I’d have major cracking on some of the thicker pieces, but I guess they were dry enough. I have some mugs, some plates/platters, and a lot of kiln cookies and test tiles. I’m hearing some pinging, so I’m guessing something is going to crack, but we’ll see tomorrow! Overall, I’m happy and looking forward to glazing later this week if it’s not too hot in here.

@Lee Ann Riddle I fired to 06. I think it was just the test tiles tapping up against each other. Nothing cracked. I did have a few things with Stroke&Coat, though, so it could have been that.
What 3 pottery tools are your Ride or Die......
I would love to know from everyone what 3 pottery tools would you chose that you can't live without if you could only have 3 for the rest of your pottery life? Mine are : Mud tools red rib , Mud tools white sponge , DCT pear shaped trimming tool.

Mudtools… red rib, blue sponge, and the shark pin tool!
🌿 The Great Cilantro Divide 🌿
People seem to fall into exactly two camps: 💚 “I could put cilantro on everything.” 🤢 “It tastes like soap!” Fun fact: That “soap” taste is actually linked to genetics. So… where do you stand? 😄

@Jeanette Stevens this is how I feel, too. It doesn’t taste like soap, but it’s not enjoyable either.
Hype
UPDATE: I JUST CHECKED AND HYPE IS NOT AVAILABLE IN MY COUNTRY (THE BAHAMAS). Can someone take a photo of their phone or laptop on YouTube, and show me where the Hype button is please? I just can't find it 😔. Thanks

@Mel Beighton I think there’s something to do with the number of views that a video has, too. You can’t hype until it reaches a certain number.
Wheels and Bats
Absolute beginner questions: I’ve never thrown before, but just bought a 14” Vevor wheel for my practicing, after I take throwing lessons very soon. The Vevor wheel head does not have holes, for the bat and bat pins. I’m going to have holes drilled in it. I want to get bats for it. What size bats should I get? I’m seeing a lot of 12” bats…..but the wheel head is 14”. Do the 12” bats work on the 14” wheel head or am I to look for 14” bats? Don’t know if I’ve seen many of those. Also, what are your favorite bats and brands? I would like the ones with the inserts to remove and set aside for drying. Thanks

You don’t have to drill holes. If you get a Bat Mate, or make a clay base, you can just stick the bat right on. I’ve used the clay base with Speedball plastic bats and it worked great. My understanding is that it’s difficult to drill bat holes in the exact right location if you try to DIY.
