What Is The Larynx (Voice Box) And How Emotions Affect It
The larynx, often called the voice box, is a small structure in the throat that sits between the tongue and the trachea (windpipe). It contains the vocal cords, which open for breathing and close to create sound when we speak. But the larynx is not just for voice. It is part of the breathing system, the nervous system, and the survival system. The larynx is connected to the vagus nerve, which controls many automatic functions in the body such as heart rate, breathing, swallowing, and emotional regulation. This is why your emotional state directly affects your voice. ‼️ Emotional States And The Voice Different emotional states change how the larynx works: 👉 Anxiety - High, tight, shaky voice 👉 Fear - Tight throat, voice cracks 👉 Anger - Loud, harsh, pushed voice 👉 Sadness - Low, slow, heavy voice 👉 Freeze - Quiet voice, hard to speak 👉 Safety - Clear, steady, relaxed voice ‼️ Your voice is a reflection of your nervous system state.

@Annika Schullerqvist thank you for this. Yes I’ve certainly done some singing on my own and without fail I cry every time. It’s been years and years it never seems to completely shift.

THE SPINE
Your spine is not just bones. Your spine is your battery, your antenna, and your shock absorber. When the spine is stiff, everything feels hard: Breathing Walking Twisting Even thinking sometimes When the spine moves, the body feels younger, lighter, and more alive. Think about animals: Cats stretch their spine every day. Dogs shake their spine every day. Kids roll, twist, hang, and flip without thinking. Adults? We sit… and our spine slowly becomes a stack of coffee cups. So this week, we focus on SPINE DAY. Your Spine Loves: - Twisting - Bending - Reaching - Rolling - Arching - Rounding - Hanging - Breathing 5-Minute Spine Reset (Do with me =) 1. Cat–Cow — 1 minute 2. Twist right/left — 1 minute 3. Side bend — 1 minute 4. Roll down slowly — 1 minute 5. Big inhale, reach up, long exhale fold — 1 minute That’s it. Movement is nutrition for the spine. Breath is hydration for the spine. Twisting is a massage for the spine. Your homework today: Move your spine in all directions and notice how your mood changes. Because a flexible spine is not just a physical thing. It's an emotional thing, too.

I generally really enjoy all the movements you’ve suggested to try here for the spine but I sometimes find that I have so much instability through the disks that one slightly wrong movement can leave me pain. I can develop a lot of fear around spinal movement and fluidity because of this.
Welcome to the community. Small steps. Big changes.
1. Introduce Yourself =) Tell us your name, where you’re from, and one thing your body has been trying to tell you lately. 2. Two Truths & One Lie – Body Edition Example: • I can touch my toes • I hold no tension in my jaw • I love cold showers. Guess which one is the lie. 3. Win of the Week! Did you sleep better? Stretch? Breathe? Walk more? Small wins count. Share one.

Hello I’m Tamara from Australia! Lately (for a long time) my body has been telling me to both let go and stabilise. I’m hypermobile, I feel comfortable when I sleep, I can wiggle my ears. My win this week was finding a new local physio who really understood my specific needs and was incredibly validating! Big win for me!

@Zina Zinchenko unfortunately sleeping is the worst for me! I struggle so much. I wake up every 10-15 minutes all night I have to shift positions due to body aches and pains.
