The Rebuild Pt 6 - ICT Billet on board!
Got rained in, today. Wanted to get the block mounted to the stand, but I need to do it outside because the hoist doesn’t fit in my garage. So instead I masked and painted the new short block on the floor. Wanted to do Pontiac silver-blue, but all I had left was silver… so sticking with the aluminum block look. But, just as I was cleaning up I found a ICT Billet adapter laying around. It’s the first part of the long block!

Decision time - Injectors
Hey guys, Time to order some injectors. Rather than use the ones I had in my prior build, I think I "might" want to just get some new ones. But I have a few questions. My goal is to build a reliable, fun, street motor. It's in a third gen F-Body with a T56. 1. How accurate are most companies out of the box without verifying their stated flow rate? 2. Need help settling on a good brand if I go that route. 3. Are my current injectors (Bosch 280150558) worth reusing after a sonic cleaning and flow-match? Current combo used green top (casting 280150558, rated at 42# - have seen 43.5# on some sites). My build is N/A and anticipated to stay that way for awhile. I will be verifying my prior tune with HP Tuners. Here's my combo: Block - 6.0 iron, bored .030 over (4.030”) Crank shaft- Stock, 3.622” stroke, ground .010” Main bearings - King MB5293MC .010 (Standard bi-metal aluminum silicon with anti-friction coating) Pistons - Mahle PowerPak 4032 forged 4.030" with .945" wrist pins Connecting rods - K1 Technology 012AE29610 forged 4340 H-beam (6.098” with .945” wrist pin) Connecting rod bearings - King CR807SI .010 Oil pump - Melling 10295 with mid-level spring Oil pump barbell - Improved Racing (reusing, with inspection ) Oil pan - Stock 98-02 LS (reusing, with inspection Oil pan baffle - Improved Racing (reusing, with inspection ) Camshaft bearings - King CS5171HPT Camshaft - BTR LS3 Stage 3 v2 (reusing, with inspection) Timing chain - Cloyes Hex-a-Just (reusing, with inspection) Timing chain damper - Trickflow Specialties (reusing, with inspection) Lifter buckets - new GM (reusing, with inspection) Lifters - LS7 (reusing, with inspection) Heads - stock 243 castings Valvesprings - BTR upgraded (reusing, with inspection) Head gaskets - GM 12610046 (4.100" - .051" compressed thickness) Head bolts - reusing ARP (torqued 1 time, reusing with inspection) Pushrods - 7.400" x .080" (reusing, with inspection) Rocker arms - (reusing stock rockers, with inspection)

Injectors are easy to overlook, however they are one of the most important parts of a good running engine. I have personally killed an engine with Bosch 210's due to one (or more) sticking open. I have had great luck with FIC and Deatchwerks injectors, I lean a bit more toward the DW's. For your build, I would highly recommend a DW 550cc ICT SKU DW-16u-LS-0550-8. These are high quality injectors that are a little bigger than what you have since they have better control at low duty cycle and come with all data to plug right into your ECU. (Cheap injectors run, but simply dont have the control (or data) at low duty cycles to make an engine last and run good) DW actually flow matches their injectors 3 times before it leaves their building. One timing being after you order them they match them right before they leave to ensure they are top notch when you receive them. So to answer your questions: 1: FIC and DW are 100% trustworthy 2. Deatschwerks I would personally recommend (Linked above) 3. I would not invest more into these bosch injectors myself Bonus: Make sure you don't get injector size and fuel pressure mixed up. For example, your bosch injectors show to be a 42pph injector at 43.5psi of base fuel pressure. However if you are running 58psi of fuel pressure, this will make the injectors bigger, so it would act like a 55pph injector and run rich if your data is wrong
Friday test and tune
Got to make a few wastegate hits Friday night, getting this fuel map and injector data figured out!
