I mostly built websites for my personal ideas, but then I started building for other people. When I worked for Lash Anarchist, Ali the owner pimped me out to her friends to make their sites, and a little side business was born out of that. That then escalated to me building my own website builder platform much like Squarespace, but built for the beauty industry. I thought I had landed on a gold mine, as this was a new opportunity and nothing had been done like it before. The problem I started to run into though, was that it’s really hard for people to make websites themselves. I was constantly being contacted to help with something, and as a solo entreprenuer, this got to be super overwhelming. I needed this to be easier, but I didn’t want to get rid of the entire builder because I saw it as a good asset in my online business journey. So instead of continuing to allow people to build the sites themselves, I decided to take matters Into my own hands and build it for them again. I couldn’t give up my goal of getting as many beauty pros online as possible, and I’m still doing that to this day.

Before I talk about the strategy that I used in the beginning of my career to constantly stay booked and busy during my slow months. You need to understand that even when I work at salons and am employed - I take control of my books. I am a control freak by nature, especially when it comes to my income. I only let the front desk or the management do so much with my books. I always know what is going on with them, who is coming in, and who is coming in 5 weeks from now. That is the key to my success during slow months. This is what I did and still do to this day - In between clients I would sit at the front desk and look at my books 2-3 weeks from that day. I would text or email all of the clients that I had booked and offer them 50% off if they wanted to come in sooner. They could only come in on the open slots that I had that week or the next. I wanted cash quick, I wasn't trying to move them up a few days. A lot of them took the offer and I was booked solid again. The now open spaces in 2-3 weeks would be most likely filled up by the time it got to that point. Did I lose money up front? Yeah. I still made more money than I would have if I didn't have anybody. And I got tipped. So no, I wasn't sad about losing the 50% for a few weeks. It also made my clients feel really good.
