Reflecting on the day 😊
A quick overview of some of your updates for the awareness day. Very brief video because it was just me!

Reflecting on the day 😊
Gorgeous grooming session.
I had a lovely groom with a rescue from abroad. He was so fearful when he came in but he settled down with me and did brilliantly. I did a 10 minute video as we were communicating and his mum has said I can put it on social media. I just love these types of grooms so much.

Awareness Day Pupdate! 🎨
So we’ve been having fun chilling out at home today. We have watched some television on the couch, we have pottered about the garden planting seeds, we even set up some Freework activities around the house. But my favourite activity today has been dog art class using lickable treats 👅 Later i’ll be giving the two girls a bath and then letting them air dry with a chew since it’s sunny today ☀️ It’s admittedly been good to keep occupied since it’s a week today Nala passed away… I had SO many plans for her today, and it has been really hard coming to the realisation she isn’t coming back… Let me know who is joining me tonight to share what they’ve got up to? 👇 #dontwalkyourdogday

Hello everyone! 👋 We are all set for Don’t Walk Your Dog Day today! 🐕 🚶 To give you some inspiration, here are some things you could do instead of walking: ⭐️ set up a Freework activity around your home, or secure garden ⭐️ surprise your dog with a treat filled boredom buster such as a kong, lickmat or snuffle mat ⭐️ start some consent-based training exercises using positive reinforcement ⭐️ if your dog enjoys it, spend some bonding time grooming your dog or even, simply petting them ⭐️ chill out and watch a dog-themed movie together on the couch ⭐️ if your dog doesn’t mind the car, drive to a nearby secure dog run where they can spend some time off-lead with no distractions or other dogs to worry about Perhaps you can think of more? Today it would be AMAZING if you all post what you’re getting up to with your dog. Later this evening, I will check in with you all and hopefully get to hear what you have gotten up to! Have fun today everyone, and remember, you’re not a failure for having a dog who struggles with walking in public places, and there are still ways to offer your dog opportunities to have fun, decompress and stimulate their busy minds while you work on those issues 🩷 See you tonight!

@Rosemary Neale planning on chilling this evening? 🩷
HELP!
I have had a dog joined my books that is complex … the owner is saying I can’t use treats / toys as she has bad issues with guarding and can be aggressive… this dog is going to need some real work to get her to warm to grooming as she’s had bad experiences… I have no idea how I can do this without a positive reward…?! Do I say they need to sort the behaviour issue first …? If anyone can help be fab… would be happy to arrange a zoom if easier :-)

@Clare Pulfer do you know how long it was into session when she snapped? This will give you an idea of how long she lasts before stress builds up to an unmanageble point. Personally, any highly sensitive dog should have short sessions, no longer than 30 minutes, and even with that regular breaks. What I’ve observed with my son, Nicholas (who is 3) is that his attention span is no more than 10 minutes a time, and that’s on a good day. If we were to anthropomorphise slightly and consider that dogs have the mental and emotional capability of a child that age, I would speculate that they would have a similar attention span too. Keep it short, utilise plenty of positive vocal reinforcement. What does the carer do with the dog at home for fun? Is resource guarding a thing for everyone, just dogs, just certain dogs? For example, Nala had terrible food aggression but it was only directed at dogs. So I could work with her with food, but I couldn’t have any dogs present or nearby. Food aggression, and resource guarding, isn’t always simple. IF carer can use treats and toys, they can help build up the dogs confidence at home - so you’d be looking at providing them with a thorough care plan to work through.
