Would You Join a Wearable-Based Burnout & Recovery Lab?
A lot of you already use wearables—Oura, WHOOP, Apple Watch, Garmin, Fitbit, etc. I’m exploring the idea of a vet-specific “durability lab” that uses anonymous wearable data to give you better guidance on: - Stress and recovery - Sleep quality - Burnout risk over time No spying. No “gotcha.”Just de-identified trends + simple, personal nudges to help you feel and perform better in (and out of) practice. Before I take this further, I’d love to know: If this were optional, anonymous, and actually useful… would you participate? Vote in the poll and feel free to add thoughts in the comments 👇

I think that it would be quite interesting to see what our respective data shows. I am such a big proponent of using actual data to see if new practices or interventions are actually impactful as well. :)
Sleep advice?
Hey y'all! I just started out my career in VA/VT at the beginning of the month! I won't lie, I am not a morning person... so waking up at 0500 has been messing with me. I am not sure if it is because I am not used to getting up early with my other job (kennel tech), or if it's the long shifts. Help! I am off today from both jobs and slept 10hrs! Am I doing something wrong? Or will I get use to it? Thank y'all in advance for the advice!

Good morning! These are great tips for anyone, Aaron, and particularly for those that are on long, physically demanding shifts like Kendra. I think that there is real wisdom to gently (by 30 min increments initially) shifting bedtime earlier to accommodate an early wake time (just like you would do to adjust to jet lag and a different time zone). There are also lots of way of resetting your energy throughout the day, even when at work, that are using intentional "microbreaks" and "rest resets." I am just about done with an article that I am writing for the AZ VMA on the "ROI of Rest." I will share it here in the next few days when it is ready. It has ideas and resources that all of us can use! :)
January 2026 Newsletter
Want a monthly newsletter focused on YOU? YOUR physical and emotional health? I've been sending out a monthly newsletter for several years to my long time coaching clients. It's practical, science-based (no fads!), and always includes a nudge for us to take some small steps to be healthier and happier. The audience for this newsletter isn't specifically veterinary professionals, but rather "busy-human-trying-to-be-healthy-and-happy" specific. If that sounds like you, you might just like to see it in your inbox. Zero spam. Just info. A quick read. Unsubscribe at any time. Since I do not collect emails from people signing-up to the Vetspan Collective, if you are interested you will have to send me a DM with your email if you want to get this monthly gem. If not - that's cool too. I'm here for you regardless.

I find your emails and words of wisdom typically to be quite interesting and applicable to my human self, Aaron. Thank you! :)
Self-compassion and patience
Working through the changes our bodies go through in seasons of life can be super frustrating. And, as the wise mindfulness teachers say "Resistance + Pain = Suffering." This complex hip injury I have had since February is taking so much longer to heal due to menopausal shifts in my hormones and subsequent tissue/vascular changes. And, it is what it is and I can work with it. Bit by bit, with acupuncture, PT, tweeking of my training routine, clinical nutrition, I am healing. I just wanted to share, the road may be long towards where you are wanting to go health-wise and with self-compassion, patience, and belief, it is possible. :)
Celebrate doing hard things!
I am excited to share that the rough manuscript for my veterinary wellbeing workbook is done as of today! WAHOO! This is literally been a labor of love for me this year. There will be lots of editing and formatting to come, for sure, AND today marks a milestone I have seen off in the distance for the last several years. AND, I am going to compassionately and joyously participate in the Portland Half Marathon tomorrow. Hip injury and all - going to walk when I need to and be in a state of presence and community to get through it. :)
