🎮 No More Excuses: Finding Game Dev Contacts Just Got Stupid Easy
Alright, so I just finished building something pretty cool and wanted to share it with you all. For years, we've all struggled with the same problem - how do you actually GET IN TOUCH with game developers? You find a cool indie game on Steam, want to reach out, but... no website, no contact info, everything stays locked inside Steam's ecosystem. Well, I built an automation that solves this. Here's what it does: - Scrapes Steam for games based on YOUR filters (genre, release date, etc.) - Uses AI (Perplexity) to find the actual company domains - Runs those domains through an email finder tool to get contact info - Delivers you a list of emails in literally 20-30 seconds I just ran a test - picked "survival games from last week" - and got 2 verified emails in under a minute. Then tried "adventure games from last month" and got even more. The point? There's literally no excuse anymore to say "I can't find game developers to contact." The leads are there. The tools exist. The only thing stopping you is... not doing it. Now, this is just one approach (and yes, it costs a bit for the tools), but the principle applies everywhere - if you're serious about landing game audio work, you need to get proactive about finding and reaching out to devs. What's YOUR biggest challenge with finding game dev contacts? I'd be curious about giving this a shot, but I'm completely green when it comes to setting up a workflow like this lol
„Play it in“ vs Keyboard and Mouse
I would be really interested in how you guys normally compose a new Track. Do you normally Play all the parts in with the MIDI Keyboard or are you more of a „putting the notes in“ kind of person :D ? If you are playing all the parts in , how do you keep track of the Chord progression (making sure the notes fit into the current chord) ? I normally put the notes in with the mouse but really am trying to get better at the keyboard , as I think this would be a good boost to my productivity if I could play the parts in efficiently.

I no longer have a MIDI keyboard unfortunately, so back to full orchestra with every note clicked in by mouse haha. Which I actually don't mind at all. I'm a far better composer than I am a keyboardist lol

@Marcel Gruhn Ain't nothing wrong with that, and I stand by it!
Vienna Ensemble Pro?
Hey everyone! I posted this in Cinematic Composing's community, but it's not as active as this one. How is your guy's experience with Vienna Ensemble Pro? I just received an email from Best Service, where VEP is on my wish list, and it mentioned that Vienna products have a 50% off code. I currently have a one-computer setup, but that may or may not change. With the death of Windows 10 on the horizon, I may inherit a family member's desktop. I use 11, but when I googled it, it said that I can still use a 10 as a slave. Is this correct? Granted, I would need another license if I were to use two. Lastly, how does the Vienna key work? I have an iLok already. Will that work, and do I have to have it inserted every time I'm using VEP? Also, I use Cubase 14 Pro. Thanks!

Hey Ryan, I know I'm super late on this, but I thought I'd chime in with my experience here. I absolutely LOVE VSL and every library I've purchased from them; however, I don't use VEP. I tried to set up a template with it (I score video games in FL Studio) in a similar way to how I set up my Kontakt instances on my old template (all strings in one instance, controlling keyswitches and CC automation with BRSO Articulate, same for brass, etc.) and for whatever reason, FL or my computer (I don't know which one) REALLY did not like it. It let me set everything up just fine, but had a horrible crackling noise no matter what I did or what sample I played lol. That all came through when the MIDI was rendered to audio too. This doesn't really touch on the back half of your question here, but just wanted to let you know my experience with it haha. Something similar I was clued into recently is the Virtual Sound Stage plugin, which seems to serve a similar purpose (and is free!) but I haven't played with it at all.
Akira Yamaoka and his Silent Hill
Hi friends, I have no doubt that you would know such a legend from the gaming-music industry, and I don’t mean anyone other than Akira Yamaoka. Since I don’t have time for games anymore and I played Silent Hill 2 when the sequel came out back in 2001, and I absolutely fell in love with the game. I played through it about ten times and saw all the endings. And that music really resonated with me back then too. Only now that the remake from Polish studio Bloober Team came out recently, I got my hands on the completely reworked soundtrack with 93 tracks. Well, it ended up with me having to order the 6LP version, which will be released in the fall. What do you think about the soundtrack? It’s available in full on YouTube. https://youtu.be/Q47veZhrMW8

Silent Hill 2 has one of my favorite soundtracks of all time. Super jealous of that LP :D
Video Game Esque Orchestral Composition
Hi all! Been looking for some feedback on a track I wrote in a couple of days. It's not for anything in particular, but I was loosely inspired by some video game soundtracks. I'm not sure if I'm doing this in the right spot, so correct me if I've messed something up 😅 A bit about myself: I'm 16, and I've only been composing for around a year and half. I haven't really focused on any specific style of composition and have jumped around quite a bit, so I don't think I really specialize in any one genre. I'm super keen to improve at orchestral work though!

Man this is ABSOLUTELY incredible for your level of experience. I'll echo Alex's sentiments here - don't be afraid to play "hot potato" with the melody and pass it off to other instrument sections. Every section has different flavors and feels, and even just passing the melody off to another section can reinvigorate the sound. Otherwise, you are on a great trajectory! Excited to hear more from you!
