Excellent question — and one that separates “just busy” cosmetologists from truly booked-out, high-earning professionals. Whether you’re an independent contractor or salon-based cosmetologist, I think the key is to build a strong personal brand and communicate your value, not just your services.

Mental Health and Related Issues In The Beauty Industry
Hi community. Let’s talk about how mental health is affecting the Hair Industry and hair care professionals. Here are a few topics that I think are worth discussing and the links to find the details . 1. Burnout & Over work; https://burnoutnutrition.com/ & https://www.vrbeautyconsulting.com/ 2. @Keisha S Hi Keisha thanks for your response. I think that is a great practice and a great approach. For me. Hair loss clients often remember how you made them feel — not just what you did with their hair. If they feel seen, respected, and supported, you’ve done more for their confidence than any treatment ever could.

@Tanya Tymus Bellamy Hi Tanya. Yes, When we think about the cosmetology industry, we usually focus on beauty, creativity, and transformation. But what’s often overlooked is the emotional weight carried by not only the clients but the professionals . In reality, mental health plays a much bigger role in this industry than we often talk about. I’d like to shift the focus to the professionals. To us! “Let’s Get Comfortable Talking About Mental Health” From dealing with long hours, physical exhaustion, pressure to create great styles- Color-Cuts and financial stressors, to being a kind of 'unofficial therapist' for clients, beauty professionals are under pressure in ways that aren't always visible. At the same time, clients are turning to salons not just for appearance, but for emotional support and connection. Most of us, cosmetologists are not trained in mental health support, yet we are frequently put in emotionally intense situations I am happy to see that mental health support courses are beginning to be included in cosmetology school curriculums. .
Trends and Techniques
What trend or technique do you think is overrated right now? Drop a comment. Let’s keep the bar high

@Tanya Tymus Bellamy Hi Tanya ! I can relate to that and that is a whole nother topic! Thank you for inviting me to join this wonderful and prestigious group of friends, fellow artists and seven figure thinkers. 💕 For me. The “BABY HAIR” & The Extra FLUFFY EYE LASHES are exhausting, overwhelming and overrated at this point! I completely agree with you, I see and I think that the “New Trend” is soft feminine fringe loose hair line and long Vidal Sasson, Elvis sideburns
Struggling With Brand Identity?
Hey beauty pros, let’s be real for a second — are you out here killing it behind the chair but still struggling with brand identity? You’re talented, you’ve got the skills, but when people land on your page… they don’t feel your brand.🤷🏽‍♀️ Question? What steps will you make to stand out as the go-to beauty pro in your lane and in your area?👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽

Great question! If you're aiming to become the go-to beauty pro in your lane and area, it takes a mix of skill, visibility, consistency, and client experience. Here’s a breakdown of key steps that I think are key in helping us to stand out: 🔥 1. Define Your Lane Clearly - Choose a specialty (e.g. brow sculpting, natural glam, bridal makeup, textured hair care, etc.). - Be known for something specific before trying to be known for everything. - Develop a signature style or technique people can recognize. 📲 2. Show Up Consistently Online - Post high-quality, well-lit before-and-afters, tutorials, and transformations. - Use local hashtags (#[YourCity]MUA, #DallasHairStylist, etc.). - Share your personality—people book people, not just services. - Create quick educational content (skin prep tips, how to maintain results, etc.). 🧠 3. Position Yourself as an Expert - Teach free beauty tips on IG, TikTok or YouTube. - Offer mini classes or workshops (online or in-person). - Share behind-the-scenes and explain your techniques or product choices. 🛍️ 4. Create a Luxe Client Experience - Focus on customer service: on-time, professional, clean, and welcoming. - Offer small touches: refreshments, custom playlists, thank-you cards. - Follow up with clients after appointments (loyalty matters). 🌟 5. Collect & Share Social Proof - Ask every happy client for a review or testimonial. - Share video testimonials or reaction clips (with permission). - Repost client selfies and tag them (builds your brand and theirs). 🧩 6. Collaborate & Network - Link with local photographers, models, event planners, and salons. - Join local vendor markets or beauty expos to gain visibility. - Offer your services to influencers or creatives in your area in exchange for content or exposure. 📅 7. Run Limited-Time Promotions or Events - Host a "Beauty Day" pop-up with mini services or consultations. - Launch seasonal packages or refer-a-friend deals. - Create hype around exclusive offerings (ex: holiday looks, prom bundles, etc.).
