Mental Health and Related Issues In The Beauty Industry
Hi community. Let’s talk about how mental health is affecting the Hair Industry and hair care professionals.
Here are a few topics that I think are worth discussing and the links to find the details .
4. Important on Quality of Life. ; https://studio.salonory.com/
Key Data & Findings Suggest That
  1. Wellness challenges among beauty professionalsA survey of licensed beauty professionals in the U.S. (in a white paper by Pivot Point) found:
  2. Burnout among hair stylists
  3. Physical health stressors linked to mental health risk
  4. Attrition, labor shortages, pricing pressures
  5. Mental health advocated through training & support
Here is What the Data Suggests
  • There is a high prevalence of both mental and physical stressors in the hair which often overlap (physical pain → worse mood, fatigue → more mistakes or emotional strain).
  • Burnout is common and increasing. Many stylists feel overworked, under‑supported, with insufficient time off or boundaries.
  • Financial and business pressures (rent, supplies, cost of living) are exacerbating mental health strain.
  • Emotional labor (client expectations, always being “on”) is real, and many stylists report pressure to respond immediately, always provide positivity, etc.
  • There is recognition within the industry of these issues, and some intervention/training programs are arising, but lots of room remains.
  • All findings can be pulled up by some peer‑reviewed journal studies quantifying anxiety, depression, etc. among salon workers, or brokendown by state / city (e.g. Atlanta) to see how it looks locally to you.
