Social and Food Play - Session 3
Kairo was a little distracted today, but I was impressed that we were able to work through it and continue the game. Should I have ended the session sooner, since she was starting to disengage, or is it good to build up their stamina for play? @Alex Lato

@Alex Lato So, would you vary the proportions of play/behaviour within the same session? I.e. sometimes ask for one behaviour then reward, and sometimes ask for more?

@Alex Lato Ok, thanks, we’ll give it a go!
Food Play - Session 3
Here’s our rubbish attempt at the mouse game. Where am I going wrong? @Alex Lato

@Lynne Willmott Will do, but I think it’s more likely that I’m wrong!

@Alex Lato Ah, thank you, that makes sense
Food Play - Session 2
Tonight, Kairo and I gave Kong hand another go. I think I need to keep my food hand steady, rather than moving it towards her or switching the angle. Any thoughts or advice appreciated! @Alex Lato

@Alex Lato Thanks for the advice! I’ll try adding in some teasing/misses and let you know how it goes

Sorry I couldn’t make it, but looking forward to watching the recording!
Questions for tonight
I might not be able to attend the live call but will try my best, so here my questions: - is a verbal cue to stop social play when gone too far similar to a tactile cue (collar grab)? I use my “uh-uh” a lot with both dogs also during play and I find it conflicting for them (it signals that they did something wrong) so I’d like to stop using it but want to hear the difference between verbal and tactile “correction” during play - Tokaji is definitely a dog that likes to hold stuff in his mouth during play (even social play) so that would not interfere with the play? Is it advisable to use a toy or something neutral / different (ie piece of clothing or slipper etc) that is not also used during toy play?

Love these questions, especially since they apply to Kairo too! I’d say Kairo responds better to the tactile cue when play goes too far, as she doesn’t cope well with being told (verbally) that she’s done something wrong. I’d be keen to hear Alex’s thoughts!

@Sere Tonelli Yeah, it’s a hard habit to break I once had a trainer jokingly introduce a swear jar for ‘ah-a’. If you said it, you had to pay up lol
