To gimbal or not to gimbal
Who is can't live without their gimbal? Who refuses anything but handheld? Tripods or Tri-don'ts? "tHeRe'S a PuRpOsE fOr EvErYtHiNg" yea, yea, yea, but what's your preferred way to shoot a wedding? My primary camera does not have IBIS, so I've only ever used it on a gimbal, but I'm falling more in love with the handheld look. Been thinking about making the switch and how I can practice a "steadier" hand.

I am full handheld!! I never ran into any issues when I switched over. Be superrr mindful about keeping your hands still and get some practice in before a wedding day and build out a heavy rig and you’ll absolutely love it. I’m the #1 gimball hater. I’m either full tripod or full handheld no in between haha

@Analise Porter My main body is a Sony a7siii and I shoot with a 24-70mm 2.8 lens! I know that the body does for sure I’m not sure if my lens does. And as far as having a heavier rig (I learned this from Kyle!) the heavier your handheld rig is, the smoother your shots will be. If you shoot on just a camera body with a lens it will be super shaky but if you add things like a cage, battery, mics etc it will be heavier and it’s easier to keep it steady!! ☺️
Frame rate mindset
What frame rate is everyone shooting? Are you switching throughout the day for certain moments or are you sticking to 60fps all day for flexibility in post? What’s your thinking behind it? Do you prefer that natural motion blur at 24fps or do your clients not even notice.

I also used to stick hard to 60 fps as a safety but after lots of practice with keeping my handheld rig I shoot mostly 24 fps and switch to 60 fps for something I’d want to slow down. Working on shifting my mindset to film with editing in mind too!! 24 fps is just gorgeous
Hi everyone!! 😇🩷
My name is Rylee! I’m based in Arizona, I’ve done videography for about 8 years now and weddings for 3, just went full time a year and a half ago!! One thing I’m super stoked about right now is a wedding I just booked for June next year in the South of France. It was a big goal of mine to make it to Europe in the summer of 2026 so it feels so awesome to have that to look forward to now. Big wedding crashers fan and happy to be here!!

Hello!
Hi everyone! My name is Dave and I am based in the Bay Area, California. I’ve been filming for 7 years now and I’ve been working on refining my style of creating films and my brand itself. It has truly been a fun journey changing things up and excited to meet other filmmakers! Also just booked a very intimate wedding out in Hawaii so super excited to be able to film that soon!

Here we are!
Hey all! Apologies for taking so long to finally post on here! We are so stoked that we already have so many of you on here. And I’ll get to responding to your comments soon! I’ve told my story multiple times on podcasts including our own. I feel that, more than anything, I would have loved to hear a story similar to it before I had jumped into the unknown of full time wedding filmmaking. I was an icu nurse for 3 years and worked during Covid where I was asked to do some insane stuff but those are stories for another time. Wedding film was something I was told to let go of since 2015. It was one of 3 jobs I had at one point just to make ends meet after we had our first kid. NO ONE believed it was sustainable and I had zero people to point to to prove my point. If it ever seemed like I was making these videos as good as possible to prove something, it was because I did haha. I quit my nursing job at the end of 2021 and my nursing manager rebuked me and said I was an irresponsible father because she didn’t appreciate what she was hearing from my peers about how I would go about acquiring insurance. I was at about 33k in bookings when I quit which wouldn’t be enough to get by and that first summer I had less than 1k in my bank account and 2 kids. After focusing on my business full time for the first time in my life, profits have increased over 60% each year and this year will gross over 350k. Only wedding video, no business related content or retainers. A fact I feel comfortable sharing here with our community and a story I’ll expand on in our retreat. It took a long time to get this far and I am still very hungry and passionate. Excited to be an educator in this space and be on this journey with all of you!
