Alternative Pathways to "Certification of Qualification"
🚨 Calling all Power Engineers in BC & across Canada! 🚨 We all know the traditional path to certification: working your way up through plant roles (assistant → shift → assistant chief → chief engineer) and writing the exams. But did you know there are other recognized ways to gain qualifying experience toward your 5th through 1st Class Power Engineering Certificates? Technical Safety BC (and other Canadian regulators under SOPEEC standards) recognize a variety of experiences beyond just plant operation. From commissioning projects to consulting, there are multiple ways to demonstrate competency and meet certification requirements. 👉 I’d love to hear from this community: What alternative paths have you taken (or seen others take) to meet certification requirements? Let’s share knowledge and help the next generation of engineers understand all the options available. ⚙️🔥

I dont know, may some our guys here know more about it? Any ways Transport Canada could be contacted for clarification. Fleet here in Canada is small in comparing with EU fleet, may be offshore job worthy
⛽ 20 Years in Oil & Gas: From Greyhound to Grit — A Journey of Tenacity
As I reflect on 20 years in the oil & gas production industry, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude—and a little awe—at how far I’ve come. It all started when I was just 19 years old, as green as grass, riding a Greyhound bus to Fort St. John, BC, with nothing but ambition and curiosity. I was part of the very first intake of the original Oil & Gas Field Operator program at Northern Lights College back in 2005—and I graduated with top marks. But school was only the beginning. I didn’t wait for opportunity to knock—I knocked on doors, shook hands, and built my own path. With my first contract offer in hand, I marched it to a 3rd-party operating company. Then I did something bold: For a week straight, I showed up uninvited at 5:00 AM to a local maintenance company’s morning meeting, and every morning, contract in hand, I told them, 👉 “I need a truck and some tools—I’m ready to work.” Eventually, they gave me that chance—and I’ve been earning my place in this industry ever since. 💡 What’s Carried Me Through: 🔹 Grit—I never took “no” or "can't" as the final answer. 🔹 Tenacity—I kept showing up, always ready to improve myself. 🔹 Curiosity—I continue to look for the next thing to learn and the next way to grow. 🔹 Respect for the Craft— From day one, I understood this work matters. 🌍 Today, I Look Back With Pride The industry has changed a lot since 2005, and so have I. But my belief in resilience, integrity, and earning your way in remains stronger than ever. 💬 To anyone just getting started: show up, stay curious, and be relentless. This industry still rewards those who go the extra mile. Here’s to the journey—and everything that still lies ahead. #OilAndGas #PowerEngineering #FieldOperatorLife #CareerJourney #NorthernLightsCollege #TenacityWins #OperationsExcellence #FromTheGroundUp #Gratitude #20YearsStrong

On-line digital video interviews? A new norm?
Have anyone else here experienced this intake process? A few times now I have been invited to complete an online video interview. During this interview, I was asked a series of written questions and recorded a response through video, multiple-choice, or text-based answers. I'd like to know your experience and opinions about this process.

There were two MS Team interviews, but had not any written questions. Headphones helped me a lot, since some technical issues broken voices.
Pretty quiet in the exam success chat...
We know you've been successfully passing exams! Let us know which exams you've been able to pass in 2024, and we will send you some free stickers just for participating!
