Hi Richard, I'm not sure that the square thumbnail does justice to the image, I'd welcome the opportunity of seeing a full screen version. There's no doubt that you have caught the mood. The strip of sunlight breaking through heavy cloud against a bleak hillside creates a strong contrast highlighting the isolated barn. I wonder if the overall effect would be enhanced with a landscape view, possibly a panno. The more I look at the image the more I see, I like it.

Hello Richard, thank you for your response to my comment and for the comparative photos. You are right, of course, the wider view is completely different. As I said the more I look at it the more I see, for instance the weather front coming across the moor adds, for me, a huge amount of feeling, as one who has been on an isolated moorland with a weather front approaching.
A couple of changes.
Hi All - I have added a new category called "Monthly Focus Photo" - please can you add ONLY the photo for the monthly project to this category and include the relevant month in the title. If you have already posted your September photo there is NO need to do anything we are only a small group at the moment so I will deal with it. Secondly I have changed the monthly call time to the first Tuesday at 7;30pm - sorry for messing your all around but just tweaking things to make it better as the group grows.

Thanks Richard, the proposed changes are fine by me.
Stones at A’Chleit
This shot was taken back in April from a beach on The Mull Of Kintyre. If you had seen me trying to compose the photo you might have laughed. I was back and forth, left and right, higher and lower trying to find a pleasing composition of the rocks as well as positioning the sun. I was also trying to avoid wet feet from the advancing waves. I finally settled on this. It’s always a compromise. Some photographers might comment on the bright reflection right at the bottom of the frame. Personally I find it rather pretty. So, does this image portray a quiet calm mood? F/14, 4mins with ND filter, ISO100, 43mm.

Hello Colin, I don't know whether you got wet feet but, if you did, it was worth the challenge. The bright reflection at the bottom of the image first caught my eye leading me in before travelling past the stones to the horizon. Overall very calming whilst at the same time the drama made me return to it many times.
Western Sky in Autumn
The recent posts reminded me of an photo I took of Saddleworth Moor in October 2022. The moor at this point is a plateau giving the opportunity to create images of big skies. I took this photo at dusk with the last of the light in the west. It was taken from a very low position. I was attracted by the zig zag shape of the clouds leading to a vanishing point where the sky meets the horizon. The original photo has an aspect ratio 16:9 ehancing the feeling of emptyness, the vastness of the sky and awe at the beauty, power and strength of nature some of which is lost in the attached image.

Hi Ian, thank you for your comments.
Monthly call time
Several of you have mentioned that you won't be able to join the call. I was wondering if this is because the timing is inconvenient or it is something you would rather watch as a recording at your own convenience? The current plan for the call is an hour, image review, editing trining if time allows and Q&A, once a month. Please could you review the timing and options below and vote for your preferred choice. I have kept the options below to UK evenings and one Sunday slot. Vote for the one that suits you best but if you prefer a time I have not mentioned please put it in the comments

Like Colin it is always difficult to allocate a specific evening. However I am happy to fit in with the majority and to give my apologies when necessary. Of the weekday evenings Tuesday would be best for me.

Having taken an aweful lot of photos most of which aren't worth keeping, I'm now beginning to recognise a style which I'm trying to develop.
