A Reminder for Every Writer in the Middle of a Draft ✍️
As a ghostwriter, I’ve worked on manuscripts that started as scattered notes, unfinished chapters, rough outlines, ideas the author almost abandoned. What usually makes the difference isn’t perfect writing from day one, It is consistency. Some of the strongest books are built slowly, one imperfect page at a time. The first draft is not meant to impress readers. It’s meant to exist. Editing shapes the message later. Momentum creates the manuscript first. So if your current draft feels messy, slow, or incomplete, you’re probably closer to progress than you think. Keep writing. 📚 https://www.fiverr.com/s/7Yeb3L4

Absolutely. Don't expect a polished manuscript on the first draft. It's what is causing so many writers to turn to AI, because they want to jump straight to the final draft. However, they are too green to at that although the writing maybe good, there is no voice or soul with AI-generated content.
When Your Story Idea Feels Bigger Than You
Have you ever had a story in your head that feels alive, characters, scenes, and conflicts all buzzing—but when you sit down to write, it somehow shrinks or gets messy? That’s a stage many writers hit, and it’s less about talent and more about how to channel all that energy. One approach that works well is breaking the story into scenes or beats, then looking at each one through the lens of emotional impact: what does the reader feel here, and why does it matter to the character? Over the years, I’ve worked with writers who have amazing ideas but struggle to translate them onto the page. Helping them connect the dots while preserving their voice is where the story really comes alive. I’m curious: when your ideas start feeling too big to handle, how do you bring them back into focus?

I analyze the main character? Who is that person at the beginning of the section/chapter/part/book, and who are they at the end of it? Everything in between either helps them become more of that person, or gets in the way of them becoming that person.

A weak book cover is like showing up to a black-tie event wearing a grocery bag and saying, “Ignore the presentation, focus on my personality.”

@Meghan Quinn Book covers that scream "amateur". They don't include the necessary elements that people expect, use basic, uninspired fonts, and little contrast between the text and background image, to name a few.

When a Great Idea Needs More Than Just Words
We all know the feeling: an idea pops into your head, and it’s brilliant… but turning it into a story that resonates feels tricky. Sometimes it’s not about structure or grammar, it’s about finding the emotional core, the “why” behind the story that keeps readers hooked. I’ve noticed in my work with writers that the stories that shine aren’t always the ones with the most complex plots; they’re the ones where the characters’ journeys are clear, compelling, and true to their voice. Curious to hear from you: when you start a story, do you focus more on the idea, the characters, or the emotions you want readers to feel?

I think, "This person has an interesting life. I'll write a biography about them." Then the emotions come as I delve deeper into the interviews.
