Hi community! I will move to Canada in a month, I have civil engineering experience in Germany and USA but I want to know more about the industry in Canada, see if I can get my PE in Ontario because I will study my master at York. If possible also find short term jobs remote or on site to learn while still studying.

A Beautiful Building Means Nothing If the People Building It Aren't Safe.
A Beautiful Building Means Nothing If the People Building It Aren't Safe. During a recent site visit, I noticed something that made me stop for a moment. A painter was working at height on a ladder, carefully applying the final coat to the building's exterior. The quality of the work looked good. The progress was on schedule. But one question kept running through my mind: What if that ladder slipped for just one second? In construction, we often measure success by deadlines, budgets, and finishes. But there is one metric that matters even more: Did every worker return home safely at the end of the day? From what I observed, there were several safety concerns that could increase the risk of an accident: • Working at height without visible fall protection. • A ladder being used where a safer access system might be more appropriate. • No clearly visible barricaded work zone below. • Limited visible personal protective equipment. A single incident can result in: - Serious injury or loss of life. - Project delays. - Financial losses. - Legal consequences. - And most importantly, a family losing someone they love. Safety is not an expense. It is one of the smartest investments any construction company can make. A strong safety culture starts with simple decisions: ✅ Choose the right access equipment for the task. ✅ Ensure workers wear appropriate PPE. ✅ Conduct daily safety briefings before work begins. ✅ Inspect ladders and equipment before use. ✅ Never compromise safety to save a few minutes. As engineers, project managers, contractors, and company owners, we don't just build structures. We build responsibility. Because the true success of any project is not only measured by the quality of the building... It is measured by how many people go home safely after helping build it. What safety observations do you notice in this photo? I'd love to hear your perspective and learn from your experience in the comments. #ConstructionSafety #CivilEngineering #SiteEngineering #ProjectManagement #SafetyFirst #WorkAtHeight #ConstructionManagement #EHS #Leadership #QualityConstruction #SiteInspection #BuildSafe

Every project has taught me something that no textbook ever could.
Every project has taught me something that no textbook ever could. When I started my journey in Civil Engineering, I thought Quantity Surveying was only about measurements and cost estimates. Over time, I realized it's much more than that. It's about understanding drawings, identifying risks before construction begins, controlling project costs, and helping clients make informed decisions. Every project has been a new learning experience. Every drawing has improved my attention to detail. Every estimate has made me a better Quantity Surveyor. Today, I'm continuously improving my skills in Quantity Surveying, Cost Estimation, and digital tools like PlanSwift because I believe learning never stops in the construction industry. My goal is simple: To share practical knowledge, learn from experienced professionals, and contribute to the construction community by creating valuable content. If my journey or experience can help even one engineer become better at what they do, I'll consider that a success. Let's learn, grow, and build better together. 👉 Follow my page for practical insights on Quantity Surveying, Cost Estimation, Construction Management, and PlanSwift. 💬 What is one lesson your career has taught you that no classroom ever could? #PersonalBranding #QuantitySurveyor #CivilEngineering #CostEstimation #PlanSwift #Construction #Engineering #CareerGrowth #LearningJourney

What do you want to get out of the community? (And Welcome)
Hey Everybody A knew month so I thought I’d start a new welcome thread. Please comment and introduce yourself. Let me know what you are trying to achieve and if you have any questions about the resources. If you click on the “Classroom” tab you’ll get access to all the resources. My goal in June is to keep growing my consulting business and focus on re-building my construction project management course. The original is around 9 hours, but the new one I want to be around 30 hours and cover a few more important topics like software, AI and personal skills. Let me know if you have any questions!
