Space…The Final Frontier…sans reverb
Things keep moving around in here. Some more than once. I have several IKEA shelves and 2 corner units. I’m in the midst of migrating them into the area that will become my vox booth sometime soon. I have read several articles stating that full bookshelves are good for sound control. I don’t know for certain when it will be complete but I see light at the end of the tunnel and it’s not an oncoming freight train. Then again. Is a studio ever really done? So here are some pics and explanations. I originally shot a video but there is too much movement and some shakiness that can cause one’s stomach to reach AKA Hurlcam. Pic 1. Slant shelf I built decades ago. It has 15 spaces per side. Still serves its purpose. Once I figure where the console is going, I’ll have a better idea where it go…along with another 26 unit rack. Pic 2. These shelves will be migrating downstairs to the vox area. I can’t call it à booth yet per se. Pic 3. Looking from the vertex down one ray from where the drums will live. Pic 4. My console which is yet to be moved.along with my MiniMoog atop a Westlake BBSM-10. That’s a very good jazz base copy. There is a Strat of the same type to the right of kit. Pic 5. My Baby. 1967 Fwnder Tremolux and two bandmaster 2 x 12 cabs. I don’t remember if I’ve said this before but…I bought the lower cab at a garage sale in LaGrange, IL for $5 bucks. It was in good condition. I figured for $5 it was worth it, even if it was empty. I paid the guy running the sale with his wife. I asked why so cheap. He said they were selling everything to move, even stuff that belonged to their son. The son never picked it up. When I lifted it to go in the car, it was heavy as hell. Hmmmm. Got it hom, laid it face down, opened up the back and saw a JBL D120 and an EVM12. Best five bucks I ever spent. Pic 6. my newly modified bass rig. Top head is a Crate B150. These were good amps in the day. This one needs to be recapped. Below that is a Sunn Coliseum Bass head. 320 watts of raw power. This thing is Loud as hell. Next level down is a Crate BX410. 4 x 10”. I bought it two weeks ago for $60. The bottom box is a Peavey 115 Black Widow. It sounds good. A friend came over a couple of days ago with a ‘75 Gibson Grabber and a 64’ Precision. He’s a much better bassist than me. He put it through the paces. Passes with flying colors.

AI and it's impact on the music industry
I read a very interesting article this morning from the CEO of discmaker regarding AI's impact on the future of music and what it means for independent artists, writers and music producers. Personally I found it very enlightening. Check it out if you get the chance.

Sorry, buy this is just plain nonsense: "The most important thing you can do with regard to AI as an independent artist is to educate yourself: AI rights, AI learning, AI monetization, and how to protect yourself as a creator." An independent artist always being someone who uses generative AI? As an artist you are the creator, you are the creative person, etc.... AI as the creator VS the creative artist. Generative AI replaces a person who convinces himself/herself that he/she is creative, because the result is always better than he/she can conceive or come up with and there is quick self-gratification. Fast food AI slop VS real music, like Radiohead, Porcupine Tree, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Dolly Parton, Carol King, The Beatles, etc.. So much stuff that sounds way better. AI rights.....what's that? You giving "your" music to train the model? You, never getting full rights? You, not giving credits to real artists? You, never feeling the gratification of creation? Etc... But, that's my opinion. Also, this should not be in the general discussion but in the AI topic 😉
Recording acoustic guitar
Hi, I’m not happy with my acoustic guitar recording. I’ve recorded successfully in the past but that was strumming the guitar. I’ve attempted recording finger picking style on my Taylor Grand Pacific about 50 million times using an sm57 and on separate takes my AKG P170. The latter is too brittle and the 57 is not at all smooth and the tone sounds like clock chimes. On both occasions I have the mic pointing at the 12th fret going through an Apollo twin with no plug ins active. Joseph Berg suggested that another mic might be the answer and recommended the Shure SM81 condenser mic. Does anyone out there record finger style acoustic guitar, if so, what is your setup, do you use a compressor or other effects on the way in? This is royally doing my head in. tia Geoff

@Geoff Holmes He recorded the YouTube song with a Neumann clip on mic. Sounds nice to me. But mostly he records stereo, using XY recording technique using Neumann 84i pair or currently the Neumann KM 184 pair. But, he also owns some quality guitars, which make a big part of the sound of course.

@Tom Hiester you can always give me a ping 😁 There are some things i notice in the arrangement and production. Busy here and there, little dynamics verse->chorus. I like the drums coming in as from 1:55. Makes it more interesting and groovy. Less hi-hat/shaker volume would be nicer. I think some of the additional instrumental layers can be positioned better, and less volume as well. It makes it feel crowded sometimes. And I here some rushing of the instruments here and there. But, that's just my opinion 😉 How did you record this? It's an interesting composition with potential though!
Do I have the right to publish a Remix or cover song in my YouTube channal ?
Hello to all musicians, I would like to ask you a question that has been on my mind a lot: i have done many Remix here from a different challenge in the community singer from MAD records as well Can I publish a of that song in my YouTube channal using the original artist's voice but with a different musical arrangement, then proceed to the mixing stage and finally the mastering, without going back to get permission from the original song owner? As far as I know, if the artist changes here, permission must be obtained from the song owner. - My example i done before a remix challenge with Mastering.com and Madrecords.com and Christana Alaire's Roses song and they asked to do a reel on Instagram, per instructions, and tagged everyone IS THAT CONSIDER AS A PARMISSION?

Using the original voice with a new arrangement is legally a remix, not a cover. - No automatic right: You cannot legally publish this without permission. You are using the original master recording (the voice track), which belongs to the record label. - Content ID detection: YouTube’s system will easily detect the original voice. - The outcomes: The copyright owner will decide what happens. Your video will either be monetized by the owner (they get the ad money), blocked in certain countries, or hit with a copyright strike.

@MooN Anas The thing is that you don't want to be blocked by YouTube, and such. So, you'll have to reach out and get permission to use the original vocals. - Master Recording Rights: Original vocals belong to the sound recording, which is owned by the artist or record label. Using them requires a master license. - Composition Rights: The underlying lyrics and melody belong to the songwriter or publisher, requiring a separate clearance. Or you find someone to record new vocals. That would turn it into a cover, which have different rules.
