Christmas Songs? Post here!
I know some of us are working on various Christmas Songs . So I thought it would be cool to have one thread we could post too!...to show our progress and maybe get some pointers from the community and or @Jake Galambos I am working on a finger style Silent Night but here are some others I am currently working on. I am trying to break the habit of looking at my fingers so I found these exercises perfect for training muscle memory in knowing where my fingers are at on the fret board...Anywho here are some Christmas songs that are works in progress!

@Unstoppable Ensah I first started playing guitar 30+ years ago and played fairly regularly for a few years but then I got married and had kids and my guitar spent a lot of time neglected - only picking it up a few times a year for probably close to 20 years. I started playing more regularly again in probably 2020 and then a lot more over the last 3 or 4 years especially.

@Unstoppable Ensah music is definitely a passion of mine. Guitar is my biggest hobby for sure. I spend quite a lot of time playing - probably 45 minutes to an hour a day 5 days a week minimum if I’m not travelling. I may have an opportunity to join a band with some friends in the new year - on bass rather than guitar - and I think that would be a lot of fun. I’ve filled in a couple of times with them and it’s always a good time and a good challenge to learn a set list in a week or two.

@Unstoppable Ensah What part of the UK are you in? I lived in Swindon in Wiltshire from 2013-2022. I'm back in my home country Canada now.

@Unstoppable Ensah I love London. It’s a great city. Very expensive but so beautiful and so much to do. We miss being close to the great theatre productions on the West End.
🎸 Project Nirvana: 20 Days of "Smells Like Teen Spirit"
I’m 20 days into the challenge with this song and I’m having so much fun with it. I’ve managed to stay consistent every single day, except for yesterday, but I’m right back at it today. I honestly don’t know if I’m learning fast enough yet, but I’ve set a goal for myself: I want to do a full playthrough before Christmas. https://youtu.be/Gia07f2pAWw?si=yFZBw9HoOfRBkFfC

Your progress has been amazing! I haven’t watched all your videos but this is a huge jump from the last one I saw. Keep at it! As for learning a set list quickly, I have found that having a group of people to play with who you are accountable to and a date you need to perform is a huge motivator and can really help you see what you are capable of.
Day 10 🎸 Guitar Kickstart Challenge
I haven't practiced...yet - I'll add my video once it's done later, but didn't want to hold you all up. Song I worked on: Accident Prone by Jawbreaker Time practiced: 40 (mostly this song but a few others as well) Win of the day: Improving on using pedals, playing, and singing at the same time What felt hardest: Hitting the foot switch at the right time for clean transitions What felt most frustrating: playing it much better and remembering all the words on the playthrough before hitting record Tracker link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1WM12nMy8DnwoqL0OftDAaJKjkshoSHJFGmQjxgsZT10/edit?gid=1377613756#gid=1377613756 Warning - this is a longer song - nearly 7 minutes.
DAY 6 🎸 Guitar Kickstart Challenge
Good enough is more than enough, because good enough builds consistency. I've got an early rehearsal today for a Christmas Cantata tomorrow - so I'm posting this early without my videos. I'll upload them later today after I practice 🙌 I wanted to get them up early enough incase anyone is already done with theirs 😊 Today’s tasks ✅ Pull out your guitar, do your workout, practice your song, or just play ✅ Record a short clip of the easiest thing you played ✅ Record a short clip of the hardest thing you played ✅ Post your daily check-in comment ✅ Update your tracker Template Song I worked on: [song] Time practiced: [minutes] Win of the day: [something small that went right] What felt hardest: [honest moment] Tracker link: [insert link] Don’t forget to upload your video for today in your post.

@Jake Galambos My first memory of figuring out a melody was in 3rd grade when I was learning recorder at school. I figured out Somewhere Over The Rainbow by ear. It's something I don't always find easy but every so often something clicks. I think I am getting better at it due to the consistency of playing guitar the last few years.

@Jake Galambos my recorder had a bit of a story. It was originally my oldest brother's and had his name scratched onto the back of it. Then it was passed down to my other brother when he hit 3rd grade and had to play it for music class in school so it had my oldest brother's name scratched out and my other brother's name scratched into it. Then when it was passed on to my, that name was scratched out and mine was scratched in. I was the only one of us who really stuck with music outside of school so I kept the recorder and had it for many years but at some point, after having kids, one of them stepped on it and it broke badly. I was pretty sad about it. It was just a cheap recorder but it had history to it. I have never replaced it but I do imagine that if I picked one up I could play Somewhere Over The Rainbow within a few minutes. I'm not sure it was ever in the right key but relative pitch wise I'm pretty sure I had it down!
