Growing a Free Community — Strategy-Focused
Hey everyone, 👋 I’m building a free community that’s growing steadily, and I’m genuinely enjoying the impact, connection, and value that’s starting to take shape. But I’m also thinking ahead — and I’d love some advice from others who’ve walked this path. Right now, I’m considering two possible directions: 🔹 Option 1: Keep the community free long-term, continue building relationships, sharing value, and introducing paid offers outside the group when it makes sense. 🔹 Option 2: Grow it to a certain milestone (number of members or level of engagement) and then transition it into a paid membership, while still keeping the group open and nurturing the community vibe. Eventually, I may also create a second paid community that's more structured or focused on advanced support — but I’m not keen on shutting down the free one, as I believe deeply in what we’re building. So, my question is: 👉 What’s the smartest long-term play for sustainability and service? Have you transitioned a free group into a paid one — or built both side-by-side? Would love to hear: - What strategy worked for you? - What would you do differently? - When’s the right time to make a shift (if ever)? - Thanks in advance — really appreciate the collective wisdom here 🙏

@Romain Morales Thank you I have been thinking about options 1 thank you for your input
Hi everyone 👋 I’m Rachel.
I’m currently building a brand-new community for people who live with disabilities or face challenges that impact their ability to work — including ADHD, autism, being on the spectrum, or even life-changing accidents that affect income. This is something I sat on for a couple of years before finally taking action, and now it’s starting to take shape. We’re still very new, but I’ve just released our first module and we’ve grown to 8 members already — which honestly feels amazing! I’m excited to see the numbers growing and to keep shaping this space into somewhere people feel supported, connected, and empowered. 💛

Thanks, Romain! 💛 I really believe there’s a gap for this kind of space, so it means a lot to hear that. I’d love to know — what’s one thing you think makes a community truly feel supportive?
Hi, I'm Heather
I am American originally from California. My spouse of 30 years was in the military so we have lived all over including a couple overseas assignments. This gave me the opportunity to meet people from different backgrounds and learn different perspectives. What I wish I had more of? I read a lot and understand a lot of the concepts of what should happen. But I don't do well at extrapolating from the examples that are not about the type of work I do. I am hoping to find people who I can brainstorm with, get ideas, and share resources. Where I feel alone? I know how to teach, advise, and coach people on my topic. What I am bad at is sales and finding the right audience. As a neuro diverse person who does not fully connect with the emotional side of things, it is difficult to understand the language that people need. So, I end up putting a lot of work into the logical side of the solution that not enough people see.

Hi Heather, I really relate to so much of what you’ve shared — especially the part about putting a lot into the logical side and then feeling like it’s not reaching enough people. I think that’s something a lot of us in this space run into. I love that you’re looking for people to brainstorm and share resources with. I’m also building a space where people can bounce ideas, learn from each other, and figure out the pieces that don’t come as naturally (for me, that’s often the sales/emotional connection side too). It sounds like your mix of lived experience, teaching/coaching skills, and the global perspective you’ve gained would be so valuable in a group like this. I’m looking forward to seeing what ideas we can spark together.
Hey, I’m Romain.
French originally, now based in Switzerland. I used to be an ER nurse making around 28k a year. Four years later, I’m running a homecare agency I built myself, making over 400k. Married, kid on the way, and a Shiba who thinks he owns the place. What I wish I had more of right now? People who are actually building. Not just talking. Not flexing. Just doing the work. Sharing what's working, what's not, and how to move faster without losing your mind. Where I feel alone? That weird middle zone. Too far ahead to relate to most people I started with. Not quite in the rooms I want to be in yet. That’s why I started this. Not a place to pretend. Just a place to get sharper by not doing it alone anymore. Looking forward to meeting you all.

Hey Romain, Your story is inspiring — going from ER nurse to building a 400k+ business in just four years is no small feat. I really resonate with what you said about wanting to be around people who are actually building, not just talking. I’m in the early stages of building my own community for people living with disabilities, ADHD, autism, or other challenges that make traditional work hard. It’s still new, but I’m listening closely to what people need so it becomes a place where they can grow and share wins without judgment. I get that “middle zone” feeling too — where you’ve moved past one circle but aren’t quite in the next yet. It can be lonely, but I think spaces like this make that gap a whole lot smaller. Looking forward to learning from how you’ve navigated your journey and sharpening alongside you.
Hi There
Hi - I'm Tami. I am from Connecticut, USA. I am an energy healer, soul guide and fantasy fiction author currently writing my 1st book. I am a creative at heart and a bit of a clue sleuth. I am currently building a Skool community for women in midlife who followed what everyone told them to do... to be.. now they find themselves wondering what the hell happened - with little to none of promises fulfilled. She feels a whisper within to shake things up - reconnect and remember who she was before the world told her who she had to be. The community contains basic course work to get the juices moving with invitations in private courses that let me go deeper if they choose. All while being connected to a community that welcomes them as they are, supports their dreams, gives them opportunity to share their gifts and build friendships and collaborations. I wish I had more people to have deep conversations with - who are dreamers like me. I have always been a little ahead of the pack - I call myself the Guinea pig - so I can help those behind me so they don't have to make as hard as I did. lol. I wish had more people around me - who are where I want to be in business - energy matches energy. I wish I had people to have sort out the millions of ideas I have in my head - chatgpt has helped this and because I am hear - otherwise I'd still be in creative project overload. I feel alone in sharing my wins or exciting things coming up like when I shared with my family that the group I am working with to get my first book out is partnering with a large chain to help their members. I was excited - I have imagined my books on their shelves before so this is huge, but they didn't match my excitement.... I want to celebrate other people's wins too... its contagious. I look forward to connecting to you all and finding out about the greatness you are offering to your audience and yourself. Peace, Tami

Hi Tami, I absolutely loved reading your introduction — the way you described your community and your mission gave me goosebumps. That calling you’re talking about — to shake things up, reconnect, and remember who you were before the world told you otherwise — that’s powerful. I can relate to the feeling of being “a little ahead of the pack” and wanting to share the lessons learned so others’ journeys can be lighter. I’m also in the early stages of building my own Skool community, for people living with disabilities, ADHD, autism, or other life circumstances that make traditional work hard. It’s still taking shape, but like you, I want it to be a place where people are truly celebrated, supported, and encouraged to step into who they are. I know that feeling of sharing a big win and not getting the excitement back — it can feel lonely when others don’t “get it.” So I want to say right here: your book news is incredible! 🎉 Imagining it on those shelves and now seeing the steps line up is HUGE. I’ll be cheering you on all the way! Looking forward to more deep conversations and celebrating the wins (big and small) together. — Rachel 💛
